Charon Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 In the current generation of Il-2, control surfaces are shot off entirely too easily. It is extremely uncommon to see this in historical photos; they are attached very solidly. The photos below show flaps split fully in two and large sections of the stabilizer removed, yet the control surface has stayed attached to the plane. Complete removal of the control surface generally only seems to happen when it makes contact with a propeller, or when flak damage is extensive enough to entirely remove part of the wing. Shredded control surfaces are good, loss of effectiveness is good, but they shouldn't fall off and flutter away as they do now. 1
Enceladus828 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Even a simple ground loop can break off a flap or elevator 💀 1
