P47 Underwing Cannon

I was thumbing through an issue of Flypast Magazine and in there was a photograph of a P47 during the Normandy campaign with underwing 20mm canon! Never knew this was a thing? I’ve not done any research on them, but there is photographic evidence of them, so wondered if it’s something that might be implemented down the line?

I believe that was experimental only.

Entirely experimental, never operational. Apparently, it was just one plane in the 78th FG.
