Monksilver Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Sad to report that a Spitfire has crashed this afternoon near the RAF base at Coningsby, Lincolnshire, England. As that is the home of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight I guess it is one of theirs. Judging from the photo below it is pretty well wrecked. Nothing yet in the news about the fate of the pilot, hope he is ok. 11
sevenless Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 (edited) Not the first time, as I read it. I hope pilot and all involved are well. Lusekofte Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Plunged to the ground tells bad news. I hope they find the reason for this accident. 1
ZachariasX Posted May 26, 2024 Posted May 26, 2024 The crash was fatal unfortunately. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-69056052# You can land the Spit in a rather small field when the engine quits on you, but obstructions like houses/fences/trees are rather unfortunate. You still come in with 100 mph. This is just sad. 2
[DBS]Hycel Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 Does anyone know which one of spitfires was it exactly?
