jollyjack Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 (edited) Been experimenting with bad weather for a sea battle. Can someone create some real heavy weather more than this, as in real life it could be a lot worse: ship torpedoing test v2c.zip PS sea state set to 06 makes the torpedo-boats jump out of the water like a kangaroo .. Player is spifire, set it to autopilot, as the nicest show is when you use F5 and point it to the first torpedo-boat. Normandy needed ... PS it seems that some atmosphere functions do not work; haze, wind direction, pressure, overcast cloud choices ???? Added, just read some 2 year old posts about weather settings ... indeed it seems still buggy unfixed in Il2. For tough weather and foggy circumstances it does not seem to work. Pity !! Sandmarken Posted May 30, 2024 Posted May 30, 2024 When trying to get some bad weather, I always make sure to set the haze to a high number, and also set the rain to high. Maybe even 10. Remember to check the box for haze and rain and add the number. 🙂 But it's true that getting really bad weather is hard in the sim.. 😕 1
IckyATLAS Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 If you play well with cloud type, cloud ceiling and thickness, rain and haze, turbulence and wind speed, you can create a pretty good bad weather situation. I see that rain is now much better modeled and it is good enough. I do not have those white streaks at all, and have really very fine and realistic rain showers. Regarding rain you get the very best result when in full 4K with an excellent monitor and correct monitor lighting, color, contrast etc. parameters. What is missing is when on the ground, parked, taxying or so the rain hitting the ground and vehicles, or objects. That would be an additional level but I understand that it is pretty hard to do and probably requiring too much compute power. But what can be done fairly easier and without needing more resources is the rain hitting the metal airframe sound when you are parked (no engine running) at low level and higher level when you open a window, and also when you drive the vehicles and open the windows or hatches would be a fantastic bonus. When you want very rough seas, then here some improvements should be implemented, but does the graphic engine have this capability, I don't think so. We will have an Odessa map, so in total three maps with sea and with ships being really part of the scope, with the sea: Odessa, Kuban, Normandy (I do not consider Rheineland as it is more a land based scenario). The LOD management of the ships behavior in very rough seas should be improved. Those three maps would justify for the devs to improve the ships and sea behavior in very rough seas. And please waves according approximately to ground level wind direction.
