I've been away from the game for over a year and just jumped back in with my Reverb G2 running off an i5 8600K and GTX 1070 (ouch). I had been getting fps in the 40-50 range at 65% NIS resolution with moderate settings. It was ok but the aliasing wasn't great and aircraft were very hard to ID even up close. I'd taken a break in expectation of getting a new GPU last fall as the Nvidia RTX 4-series promised to be a decent upgrade ie double the fps horsepower of my venerable 1070. However, as Nvidia overpriced and under-spec'd the 4070 I passed.

Imagine my surprise when I jump back in now with the same old rig and find that the fps seems to have improved. Did the engine get optimized in recent patches, or did OpenVR / opencomposite get that much better? I'm now running what I would term high-ish settings with 75% resolution and getting fps around 50-60.

One change from last time around is that I've enabled Motion Reprojection in OpenVR Toolkit, so I guess that as long as my real fps is over 45, I'll only be getting one filler frame for every real one, right?

Has anyone else noticed the VR performance improve some, or are you all rocking 4080s and don't sweat about fps anymore?

Rockin the 4080.

But yeah, it's not il2 itself that's changed but VR software.

I’ve noticed improvement in the last 6 months on the Quest 3, although completely subjective.

Interesting. As an update, I've now decided that high resolution negates need for AA so I'm running 100% resolution on the G2 with FSAA set to zero. All the sharpening stuff off. All upscaling off.

Getting about 50 fps in Quick Start 4 v 4 missions. Spotting and ID is easier than ever before, landscape has no flutter, and I'm not seeing any significant aliasing. However, I'm getting a small amount of ghosting, so currently playing around with motion reprojection using excellent guidance from mbucchia posts.

I think I'm at that point where I need a standard replay to use to assess fps vs quality tradeoffs. Is there anything out there like TheBlackDeath.ntrk from the 1946 days? I used to see that in my sleep...

In your software G2 there is 90 Hz and 60hz -

Try change yours to 60hz ( if it's on 90hz )

I have good CPU and 3090 GPU and I have mine on 60hz

Good idea, but if I set mine to 60 fps its like being in a room with a flickering neon light. I can't play with that.

I'm getting 55fps showing in game, with headset set to 90, and MR off. Resolution at 100%. I realize the G2 can do more if I raise resolution to the native 3160x3160 in OpenXR Toolkit overlay, but I dont think I can live with lower fps. As is, I can ID aircraft at about 2km whereas I couldn't before.

If anyone else is running an old card like my 1070 I suggest you give this a go with AA off and no filtering or sharpening. Resolution is king!
