Colmaniac Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 My current set up is with VR and with the AMD R 6700 XT and oc rift s. So far readjusted my gfx for better visuals and better fps, so far that has worked screen is more clear and almost double FPS at main ultra settings and adjusted sub settings for non critical visual effects. Last time I played on flight sims was on RoF and Red Barron 3d back with the free 3d patch and dial up connection lol. And at those times gfx wasn't very good and all the time used with marker id tags, obviously to make targets that are dots easier to see. Also the same with il2 in SP. Though it seems on the game servers and current ones that have a lot of players these functions are off. Playing Flying Circus I`ding enemy planes isnt too difficult as you can get close and the speed is much slower, also the aircraft is much larger at 800 yards or so. Yet on the WW2 servers this is much harder, as you only have a few seconds to make a decision. Happened yesterday afternoon, I had the upper hand by a very large margin with a high chance of a kill, but didn't take the kill getting close as I could not identify the plane as either allied or enemy some of the planes look similar on both sides, even at close range of 700 yards or so and cant see the planes colours either, since I didn't take a shot I got shot down instead lol. So how can you ID a plane with full realism and no ID tags?
dgiatr Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 (edited) Hi , Do you fly with steamvr or openxr? Whats your resolution? Whats your average fps? Do you have msaa or fxaa? 1 hour ago, Colmaniac said: My current set up is with VR and with the AMD R 6700 XT and oc rift s. Talking about resolution I mean what is your steamvr resolution ( your vr headset resolution)?

Oh sorry, Dont know how to view that with the Meta Quest VR UI on the Steam VR settings, reneder res is set to auto, but switching to custom, res per eye is 1648 x 1776 100% assuming that is what you are asking. Oh also the per-application video settings are:- custom res multiplier 2016x2172 100% and field of view 100% override world scale off Googling the rift s the standard res is 2560×1440 and 80 Hz Edited May 17, 2024 by Colmaniac

Thats what I did and have better image with Cas sharpening choice. Also see here It's a little outdated thought...

Thanks, Yes I did use those settings, did seem my game reset my gfx configuration on the last update, I did follow those settings and did get a jump in FPS also a slightly sharper picture with sharpen. Did try open composite and opexr toolkit but doesn't work for me. Done what it said got the apps to show up, but starting up I don`t get the welcome screen pop up and pressing the ctrl and F2 just opens my spreadsheet PDF so cant adjust any settings, I`m not a programmer and the troubleshooting doesn't help either.

You should really try openxr toolkit, I had the same problem as you in the beginning but there are many troubleshooting Infos in the net ( check if the right openxr toolkit layer has been installed) I am not a programmer either. For me I had better and clearer image with openxr ( Cas sharpening) than steamvr. For me the best compromise between idying and spotting is at about 2600x2600 resolution, not more than that because I loose spotting ability due to smaller opposite planes dot size and no less than that because I loose idying ability due to the bad shape of the planes. But I cannot do without at least 2xMsaa antializing graphics setting inside il2. Of course my rig can do that ( 3090 ti , i9 13900 , hp g2 at 90 fps ). Edited May 18, 2024 by dgiatr
kestrel79 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 To talk strictly IDing aircraft, and not VR performance or resolution I would look for key features of each aircraft for a proper ID. Make sure you have a zoom key binded as well. Spits are pretty easy with their rounded wings, where 109s are more squared off. Yak has very triangular wings, again rounded off as well and pretty easy to pick up.
