savagebeest Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 (edited) My wife said yes. I have a budget of $600 for a CPU. Why do I want to upgrade? so years ago I had a pc i7 9700k 2070 super 16 ram rift s the sim would run solid 80 fps but even with solid frames I still see micro stutters/jitters when passing by tress at high speed. When rolling the plane the horizon would stutter not badly but noticeable. It bothered me. I just can’t stand it. I hear this sim is CPU based more than GPU. Recently, I purchased a pc i7 12700kf 4070ti 32 ram 2 tb ssd DPVR E4 hmd im still seeing the same performance. No bottlenecking. what can I do? I tried ALL from opencomposite to lowering all graphics down to a sweet potato. At this point I’m scratching my head. Could it be down to CPU? Or is this sim just inherently stuck with these jitters/micro stutters? TDLR: would a better CPU fix micro stutters/jitters? If so, what CPU? I was looking at the i9 13900ks for around $550. I love this sim. Please help. Edited May 5, 2024 by savagebeest
HazMatt Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 (edited) Ugh. I just ordered a 12700 to upgrade my 12100. I'm running a 4070S. I hope I don't have the same experience. Most of the time my current rig runs fine in VR but there are times I get big framerate drops and figured it was the CPU even though the CPU shows to be running around 40%. Userbenchmark.com shows a 22% performance increase from a 12700 to the 13900 while your upgrade to the 12700 shows a 33% increase over the 9700(which compares to my 12100 in the benchmarks). (I know userbenchmark.com is not 100% accurate but I've found it to be good for ball parking performance.) I'm curious to know how this plays out. I find it hard to believe that a 13900 would be needed to run this game well but who knows. Edited May 5, 2024 by HazMatt
savagebeest Posted May 5, 2024 Author Posted May 5, 2024 From what I’ve gathered in a few years, this engine benefits from single core CPU’s. I believe the 13900KS is the best single core CPU on the market as of 2024. here’s the thing though, many are reporting this stutter/jitter issue yet some are reporting they don’t experience the above issue. Maybe it comes down to your expectations??? I guess I’m picky and I want my sim to run smoothly. I’m very sensitive to frame lost, stutters etc etc. I spot them so easily and it gets under my skin. before you doubt your upgrade, try it first. Maybe someone will chime in with their suggestions/ experiences.
spreckair Posted May 5, 2024 Posted May 5, 2024 I originally had an HP 30L gaming desktop with an Intel I-7 10700K and an RTX 3080, with the HP Reverb G2. It was great simply because it was all new to me and I didn't know any better. When my flying career moved into the Battle of Kuban, with frequently a lot more aircraft in the air, things got untenable; it was like flying in a slow motion molasses movie. So I then moved up to an I-7 11700K, which really didn't help that much. So about a year ago, I switched to an I-7 13700K, and this really made a big difference for me. No more molasses. I just also moved to an RTX 4080 Super, and I am a lot happier; very smooth, much better image quality, and good frame rates (80s and 90s). It is still not reality, but it is much more enjoyable.
Aapje Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 The 11700K was rather infamous, so no surprise that it didn't help.
