Generating great expectations without being able to provide regular updates on progress creates a vacuum that is a/the prime source of "negativity".

No Dagwoodyt. The only negativity here is the negativity that is brought by negative people. If the state of development in this game is so disappointing, then the negative people simply should obey Mr Stormtrooper's orders: move along (adapted to the situation here these would be: move along and go play other games). "Cliffs of Dover" entered the market in the early 2010s in such a way that it is impossible to some kind of "adorable" people to resist the idea of going to the forums in order to get some "fun". It's soooooo tempting... isn't it?

Are you OK Kintaro? Genuine question. Your posts have always been largely incoherent nonsense and fun to poke a stick at but the past days worth have been particularly troubling. Please seek professional help if you feel you need it.

Fascinating, simply fascinating. Keep going guys, keep going. I don't know where you're going, but you're going.

What really amazes me is that none of you, killjoys, are airing your grievances on the ATAG forum.
Is it because you want to stay in your echo chamber?
Isn't that nonsense and, above all, a way of staying stuck in your obsessions?

Well the official forum being here AFAIK, why would I go elsewhere? Besides, how can it be an echo chamber here, since you're here and disagree?

De facto, the present forum in the il2sturmovik.com domain is the official forum for Great Battles... only. Great Battles is the third IL-2 Sturmovik game. The two previous games in the IL-2 series ('46 and Dover) have become nothing but guests here. The closest thing to an official forum for the Dover series, if not definitely the official, is the ATAG forum.

Again: open criticism should be welcome. And it is welcome. But this is not what we get here. We get killjoys. And they are very funny... sometimes. Most of the time they are  nothing but tedious.

Past discussions here on the present forum have already unveiled how much Reddog was involved in Cliffs of Dover (Storm of War online campaign, etc.). And yes, he has some bitterness towards TFS. But I guess you already know that, Peachy9. I trust them, Reddog and TFS, so that a future reconciliation happens someday.

If this was a pre-order and they had taken your money it might be a bit different (though that isn't that uncommon an occurrence with games sales) but games communities seem predominantly tough crowds (this is one of the nicer ones in my experience) that more often or not push developers into silence. I have seen countless examples going back 25 years or so in the early Usenet days.

I think most of use would love to see more engagement from developers (not specific to TFS) but it just doesn't seem to work out which just seems a reflection on social media rather than a games community thing. The sheer vitriol on some of the more mainstream games is almost shocking but kind of comes with the territory it seems.

Of course some of it is down to the developers being way too optimistic (a trait that seems pervasive in IT - I think it is part of the desire and creativity of the job to a degree) sometimes it is just marketing fluff which exists in all industries.

The car industry is notorious for announcing new car launches which slip by years in some cases dues to technical issues (especially as cars are so much more reliant on software in development at the time of announcement). Cynically I think this is more often than not to appear to be ahead of competitors, without really believing the launch date is achievable. I tend to give combat sim developers the benefit of the doubt, I quite like the lofty aspirations as long as the enthusiasm remains to develop even if every sim I follow seems to take an age to get where I want it to be. I get a lot of enjoyment out of them and long may they continue development.

There is scientific research that suggests that it people in general tend towards the optimistic. I think that uncertainty in IT is larger, because lots of it is doing something new, which is a lot more unpredictable than a factory churning out the same thing day after day.

My experience is that developers tend to be quite aware of the uncertainty and it is often others, like managers, that demand promises that aren't necessarily realistic.

And I think that there are a lot of very demanding gamers who don't take openness well. They feel that the developer has a personal obligation to them. "I want my new feature, so what do you mean you have to sleep? You can sleep tomorrow, right?"

If it takes two weeks to put it together the presentation must be very special.
