ME ability to do one life per round matches with asymmetrical objectives similar to Counter-Strike, for the new project most likely.

I was dabbling in the scripted campaigns recently, and it made me think it would be fun to have that style of mission in multiplayer, with one team trying to complete that mission, and the other team trying to prevent them. I thought the Counter-Strike format would suit the flight sim genre pretty well for this. 


In Counter-Strike everyone starts the round at the same time with one life. One team of terrorists tries to detonate bombs at certain locations, while the counter-terrorist team tries to stop them. If you tried this one life per round with asymmetrical objectives in IL2, a match could look something like:


Round 1: Team 1 intercepts bombers / Team 2 escorts them
Round 2: Switch roles
Round 3: Team 1 attacks a shipyard / Team 2 defends it
Round 4: Switch roles
Round 5: Team 1 hunts trains / Team 2 patrols for the train hunters
Round 6: Switch roles


As far as scoring, it would be ideal if we could set a custom point value to each unit and player in the mission editor, and the winning team would be decided as whoever has the highest score at the end of the match. This way the mission designer(s) can decide what player acts are rewarded and incentivized, and ideally could also include more than just kills, to include things like surviving the round and landing at a friendly base. The winner would be the team that got the highest score at the end of the rounds.


To solve the obvious attention span issue for dead people/late comers, it would be a good idea to have a free for all deathmatch arena the dead can spawn into, where the dead can dogfight while they wait for the next round. They definitely shouldn't be able to spectate the living though, or they'll cheat and spot for them.


I think it would help encourage teamwork and more realistic missions instead of spawning/respawning into a match with most of the room already in the middle of something. The whole team is always starting at the same time with the same objective, just like they would IRL, so it's much more natural to hook up with people.


You could technically do this in the current IL2 if you organized and enforced everything externally and manually, but that's a pain and it would nice if we could just have this kind of match run itself without any babysitting. There's probably engine limitations in the current IL2 blocking this, but since the devs are currently working on the new project, I thought it's a good time to pitch this idea while the new project is in the oven.
