Five_By_Five Posted April 19, 2024 Posted April 19, 2024 I've been trying to get SRS running over the last week but have run into some problems. I'm connecting to srs.combatbox.net:6002 I hear the female voice saying that I am in the unsecured neutral lobby. I can see the other players in the client list. The server and VOIP icons are green. The IL-2 icon is black, since I haven't fired up the game yet. When I start the game via Steam the controller tells me to spawn into an aircraft. When I do this, nothing happens. The controller is still telling me to spawn an aircraft. None of the radio buttons that I have assigned will show up and I cannot get the radio overlay to appear. I also cannot seem to get back to my desktop with the game running to see if the IL-2 icon has actually connected. It seems to me that perhaps it has not. Could this be a problem with Steam starting the game? When I attempt to start the game manually through the standard .exe it will not start. I can only start via Steam. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've watched a few of the setup videos on YouTube but they haven't solved this problem. In game last night I was told to check out the reddit forum for written setup instructions but I haven't been able to find that either. Feeling like a noob . . . but I feel that way every time I fly . . . and I've been playing this game for years. I pretty much die every time I take to the air. Hoping getting on SRS can help me be a better pilot and contribute more to the online community.
Five_By_Five Posted April 20, 2024 Author Posted April 20, 2024 I've followed the installation instructions in Sketch's video as well as all of the instructions on the Reddit thread. I am able to connect to the lobby. I hear the controller telling me to spawn an aircraft. I can hear my mic clicking when I key it. I have no radio overlay. Don't know how to enable that in game. I can't seem to pop out to the desktop to see if IL2 is actually hooking up on the overlay. When I spawn into an aircraft I'm still being told to spawn into an aircraft. The controller does not respond to my queries and nobody can hear me. I've tried to work this out for the last few days. Hopefully someone can help out here.
Five_By_Five Posted April 24, 2024 Author Posted April 24, 2024 I cannot believe that no one is interested in helping out with this. Very disappointing.
HazMatt Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 I had a similar issue and this entry had somehow got wiped out in my config file. I would check that this is actually saved in your config file. About Steam starting the game. I only run it from the desktop only and have the game start Steam VR so I don't know if starting it on Steam has something to do with it. Edit data/startup.cfg in the game directory - add the lines below at the bottom (without the game running): [KEY = telemetrydevice] addr = "127.0.0.1" decimation = 2 enable = true port = 4322 [END] 1
Five_By_Five Posted May 4, 2024 Author Posted May 4, 2024 Appreciate the reply. I do have those lines in the config. Still won't start.
Five_By_Five Posted May 9, 2024 Author Posted May 9, 2024 I FIGURED IT OUT! While installing another program I noticed that it was defaulting to my E drive instead of my C drive. Turns out I had TWO installations of IL2 on my system. Steam was actually starting from the E drive that I transferred into my new PC from my old PC. I must have reinstalled IL2 on my C drive when I got this new computer last year. After removing that installation & reinstalling SRS to the proper drive . . . IT WORKS! This was a very confusing problem and given the solution I'm not surprised that nobody had an easy answer. Hopefully this may help someone in the future.
