TP_Fritz Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Does anyone happen to know of a good site or book that has information on WWI squadron aerodrome assignments throughout the war? I don't necessarily need lots of background data on the squadrons themselves - just, basically, what squadron was where at what date for (hopefully) all, or most, squadrons / Jastas that flew during the conflict. I haven't found anything that has this kind of info on a broad scale, most of the information like this I've found tends to focus on specific units or groups. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful! 1
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 16, 2024 1CGS Posted April 16, 2024 The Aerodrome has a pretty good listing of the German fighter squadrons and their locations: https://www.theaerodrome.com/services/germany/index.php 1
US103_Baer Posted April 17, 2024 Posted April 17, 2024 (edited) @TP_Fritz The Birth Of The Royal Air Force (Ian Phillpot) has this data for British squadrons in Appendix B (example below) RAF Squadron Histories – Aircraft and Locations 1912 to 1918 NO.1 SQUADRON TO NO.274 SQUADRON NOTE: ONLY SQUADRONS THAT WERE IN EXISTENCE AND IN SERVICE ON OR BEFORE 11/11/18 ARE LISTED. Can't help with the French or German squads sorry. Edited April 17, 2024 by US103_Baer
1CGS LukeFF Posted April 17, 2024 1CGS Posted April 17, 2024 There's a really good French-language website out there with info on a massive number of French squadrons, but the URL escapes me right now. Someone else here probably knows what I'm talking about.
JFM Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 For the Germans, lots of info in The Jasta Pilots: Detailed Listings and Histories, August 1916 - November 1918, 1996, by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven. https://www.amazon.com/JASTA-PILOTS-Detailed-listings-histories/dp/1898697477 Random sample from my copy: 2

No.23_Starling Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 There’s also the “Over the X” series, also from Norman Franks (and others). Each volume covers nation’s forces or one major segment like fighters or recon etc. Not the cheapest to pick up on EBay though 1
