Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 Amazon said my Meta Quest 3 would arrive on April 2nd; there was a delay and now it's scheduled for the 9th; two days from now. Meanwhile, I've been checking the few available Youtube videos to learn how people are using the Passthrough feature with their own VR flight simulator pods. My pod replicates the Fokker D7F and I would like to communicate with people who are using the MQ3 in pods with Passthrough viewing. 1. How adjustable is the shape of the "box" that's used to mask out the area in the headset where your cockpit interior can be seen? I'd need something like an inverted "keyhole shape" to accommodate the receiver-ends of my twin Spandau replicas before widening to show the rest of the cockpit interior, joystick and pedals, keyboard, and so on. Is it possible to "trim" the masked box to a desired shape? How much control over the shape of the masked box do we have? 2. I've seen videos that say the lighting in your sim pod area is very important; but they didn't expand on it. To me, it sounds like, for my application, the brighter the interior cockpit illumination (situated behind me so it illuminates the pod interior and doesn't shine in my eyes) the better. Would that coincide with your experience? I'll be setting my MQ3 up this Wednesday and would, of course, appreciate any help I can get. Your thoughts? S!
Aapje Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 I think that what works best is High-CRI LED lighting. 1

Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 9, 2024 Author Posted April 9, 2024 (edited) Mine was just delivered. Small box! Just the headset, controllers, and charging cable; no games and that's okay by me. I've been studying tutorial videos on Youtube and the setup looks a little complicated but I'm determined to learn. (crackle-crackle) "Now hear this! Commencing now, Dogfight Diary will take a short intermission while we figure out how to adapt to this new level of Virtual Reality. Prosit! " 😎 Edited April 9, 2024 by Todt_Von_Oben
Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 14, 2024 Author Posted April 14, 2024 Been following a worklist based on the tutorial video and we're having a problem setting up Passthrough in WiFi. And, the Firewire cable charges if we use a wall puck but doesn't charge or access the headset when plugged into a USB or USBC in the computer. RTX 3080 ti has the power. Anybody having similar problems and found a solution?
Aapje Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 A powered USB hub or powered USB cable should work: https://www.amazon.com/AMVR-Upgraded-Separate-Ultra-Durable-Accessories/dp/B0BDM18G7M
Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 14, 2024 Author Posted April 14, 2024 (edited) Thank you. I'll look into it today. 👍 EDIT: My wife says the guy in the video also recommends a powered USB. I must have missed that. Buying one from Amazon now. Thanks for the vector. 2nd EDIT: We bought this one: $23.99 and there's a coupon for 10% off that. Amazon says it will be here by Wednesday but they were late on the MQ3 delivery so I'm not getting my hopes up. We'll see. Thanks for the tip; I think this might be exactly what we need.
