P-40 fuel gauge / gallon type

I noticed that the P-40's fuel measurement uses UK gallons instead of US gallons. 

 

300L = approximately 63 gallons, indicating UK gallons, whereas I would expect it to read 79.25 gallons

 

Is this accurate?  I would assume being that the P-40 is a US made plane, that they would use US gallons for their fuel gauge instead of UK gallons

Ah yes, this was a big topic of discussion back when the P-40 was first released. Yes, the P-40 we have is the E-1 export model for RAF usage, so it's fitted with imperial gallon fuel gauges.
