Editing icons

Posting here as well, in the hope, somebody can help.

 

Hiya all,

 

I've just got back into sims after a very long break, VR has got me hooked again  

 

Because I've been out of the loop for so long, I've forgotten if there is a way to adjust the icons I see in single player career mode.

 

I know I can turn them off or on but wanted something a little more in line with playing in VR, spotting can be hard, but I don't want easy spotting everything.

 

What I would like...

 

Map icon of my own plane and friendly planes.

 

No map icon for enemy planes.

 

No icons for spotting aircraft, until 5 km, maybe 10km, then just the type, nothing else.

 

Is there a file somewhere I can edit to get this?

Hello Furbs, good to see you lowering the tone here again ?.

 

Not sure if this is going to give you exactly what you’re looking for but it might be a start.

As an online coop squad we started to use this when several of us got into VR using early Rifts and discovered we were as blind as Bats when it came to spotting.

It gives you very small triangles instead of the clumsy banner like stuff the game is equipped with.

Since we were half VR and half flat screeners at the time it was a reasonable compromise we could all agree on.

Cheers Arthur, I will check it out, though I think I'm looking for a plane ID when close. I seem to lose visual ID very easily these days.

 

And those interesting times on the forum a few years ago are past me now, so hopefully I won't be getting any bans.

 

How do I install that mod?

Getting a ban? These forums, along with the game, are under er…new management now.

You might notice it’s rather quieter here than it has been…

Ahh…nice.

I found ID’ing was simply a matter of practice.

Distant wing shapes became familiar, the slightly elongated fuselage of the ‘109 became too familiar, lol.

I know the shapes, it's more a case of seeing the planes for these old eyes

I just pulled the icons mods posted.  Great improvement, but I would love to have one that is just the smaller dot (or square or triangle).  No text.  No distance.

No distance on aircraft, both friends and enemies appear as black dots and enemies slowly change to red once the aircraft gets close (can't recall the exact distance but it is about when it changes to close LOD so is believable). You might get distance on ground targets - sorry it's been a while since I flew ground attack and don't remember.
