Majpalmer Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I use a Logitech X56 Stick and Throttle, along with the Rudder Pedals. But that's going to put you over $300. You can find Joysticks that include a throttle and a twist rudder (via the stick) and some programmable buttons for under $40. I had one decades ago, so there's not one I could recommend. I will tell you this. There is NO comparison between such a combo stick and having a separate stick, throttle, and pedals. Even if you only fly offline, it's still a big deal. But if you ever plan to fly on-line against Humans, forget it. When you shoot you're using the stick, the throttle, and the rudder to get lined up, and then you pull the trigger. With the combo stick, you have to do three of the four simultaneously with your right hand while the left controls the throttle. But, the bottom line is often cost. I've been there. You make do with the best you can afford and enjoy it.

I got a Warthog set (Throttle plus Joy-thing) for about 325 euro's in an amazon offer, still happy with it after 3 years. Only once had a broken wire in the joystick base, and replaced 2 quite too stiff buttons with the help of Guilermot.

Basically, all the cheaper options are overpriced products with technology that is poor quality and doesn't last. So in reality, they are not very cheap compared to what you get. So the best options are generally to either get a mildly used second hand Hotas for a substantial discount, so the price at least matches the poor quality, or go for something like a VKB Gladiator. The Gladiator has a throttle wheel and a twist axis that can control the rudder. So technically you can make do with just the stick, although it is far inferior to having a throttle and rudder pedals. But you can still have fun and the joystick itself feels great. The Gladiator will hold its value much better than the cheaper options and you can gradually upgrade. The cheapest upgrade is a TWCS throttle, preferably second hand. It is still very poor technology, but it works (although with horrible stiction) and gives you a lot of buttons on the throttle. You can try modding it to improve the stiction, although that didn't work out great for me, but your mileage can vary. A proper throttle is fairly pricey, though. Can't give good advice on rudder pedals. 15 minutes ago, jollyjack said: I got a Warthog set (Throttle plus Joy-thing) for about 325 euro's in an amazon offer, still happy with it after 3 years. The Warthog throttle is quite decent, but the joystick has low quality components inside. That's why they use the heavy springs, because that reduces the chance of you breaking the fragile components inside. Although for 325 euro's you almost got the joystick for free, but that is not the current pricing. Edited April 5, 2024 by Aapje
jollyjack Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 Thanks for the tip, maybe i'll get me another one someday ...
AngeloWheeler Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 (edited) Logitech Extreme 3D Pro is a solid choice. It's easy to set up, has a comfortable grip, and offers precise control for flight simulations. Plus, it's budget-friendly, making it a great option for beginners and experienced gamers alike. If you're still using Windows 10, you might want to consider upgrading to Windows 11 for better compatibility and performance. You can find windows 11 cheap keys online to make the switch hassle-free. Hope this helps! Edited April 29, 2024 by AngeloWheeler
