cardboard_killer Posted March 25, 2024 Posted March 25, 2024 [80 years ago today] "• The British make the first twin-engined aircraft landing on an aircraft carrier when Lieutenant Commander Eric Brown lands a navalized de Havilland Mosquito VI on HMS Indefatigable. Brown had previously shot down two Fw-200 Condors while flying a Martlet from HMS Audacity, and is now the top Fleet Air Arm test pilot. He will later make the first ever jet take off from and landing on a carrier, and still holds the world record for flying the most types of aircraft (487) and making the most carrier landings (2,407). Here's Eric Brown making today's landing on Indefatigable, followed by film of him taking off, and later a Mosquito making a deliberate run into the crash barrier on HMS Triumph." 5 1
