hootman Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Ok, Flying Circus pros, explain this maneuver to me. This was single player on a PWCG mission, and this is an AI. This is shady, shady, shady. Some sort of tail flip or something and changed direction about 90 degrees. IRL I have to believe this is impossible and the aircraft would have disintegrated. Myself and one wingman in Nieuport 28's fought this guy for 10 minutes, I eventually ran out of ammo and had to RTB. I think this is a Fokker Dr.I ?? Given real life history of wing failures, I really can't imagine this... https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hVBlOH_fQfZjn863u0jfjIXK584Htg6n/view?usp=sharing 1
AndyJWest Posted March 18, 2024 Posted March 18, 2024 Unintended flick roll, by the look of it. Quite likely exacerbated by gyroscopic forces. Probably not realistic, but not that surprising considering some of the other quirks of the Dr.1 flight model. I don't think the AI intentionally exploits it, and in the case you show, didn't do anything beneficial. As for wing failures in the real Dr.1 they were partly due to poor quality control, which was dealt with to some extent, though the problem continued, and was only really understood postwar. 1
