You're welcome. I think it's a good starting point at least. Quest Link needs to be made to be much simpler/better.

I followed your guide and I can play IL2 in VR now-its not great, but I can actually read the cockpit gauges, lol. 30 FPS .Granted,I am due for an upgrade(I7 10th gen./1660 GPU),but at least I am able to VR'. However, the XR toolkit settings stopped me cold. The warning mostly says "CPU Bound",and IL2 has trouble launching /playing .

I am curious what you would suggest to dial back the XR toolkit settings and what settings I should creep up on to squeak out the most of my rig. I am on hold for awhile (like a lot of us) until we get a price drop on some GPU's and CPU's.. Thanks for your help!!

We are in an excellent spot for CPUs actually, now that you can get a 7800X3D that is pretty much the top of the line for much lower prices than a top tier CPU cost in the past.

GPUs are a bit more of a challenge.

Set the resolution lower for your card. I would probably not override the render resolution until you have more HP. Leave it at the 1.5 setting in the Oculus Link App and play. You'll probably get 10-12 more FPS.

Or instead/additionally, turn town clouds, shadows, and turn off grass. Try the low preset and also decrease the the horizon distance to 70km.

On another note, I'm selling my old system with a water-cooled 5800X3D, 32 GB DDR4 CL16, 1 TB M.2 SSD and an RTX 3080 for a very reasonable price if you're interested (I upgraded and downsized to a 4090 laptop).

Ok  . I have a bit of room to drop the in-game settings.I have the Oculus Link app at 1.5.To lower the card resolution,is that the Image Scaling setting in Nvidia control panel? Thanks again.

....your RTX3080 and your 5800X3D are appealing.... I already have  48Gb DDR4 and a  1TB M.2 SSD

No, the super sampling in the video uses Open XRToolkit to override the render resolution to 3096x...

I had an issue with a cable not being recognised. I used a USB-3 to USB-C adapter to plug into the motherboard. There was a suggestion that if the headset wouldnt connect try rotating the plug 180 degrees I tried this and it worked but I havnt a clue why.

Thx buddy!That's very helpful!

I used to set the graphic setting to LOW to get above 60fps. After following your guide,I have got a constant 72 fps

with a acceptable graphic setting!

Thankyou for the video. The (2nd) cable on my G2 just died even though I only use it for flight simming.

Just got a quest 3 because I can't justify the cost of anything else but wow! The edge to edge clarity is excellent, better than the G2 and being able to run at 72hz means I can crank up my graphics settings.

Also playing around with mixed reality is very fun! The headset itself is much more comfortable than the G2. I've ordered a comfort strap and faceplate but am not using them yet.

Some of the app interfaces are a bit rubbish and it sucks that you have to have accounts and log into things, same with everything nowadays I guess.

I'm having difficulties getting the open xr toolkit working. Since I was using open composite on my G2 it doesn't seem to notice that I'm now running the meta xr. Any suggestions?

I've gotten it working with openxr now. Steam VR kept starting up in the background but have stopped it now.

I've been having issues when I take off my headset in il2. Turning off the sensor in the meta software doesn't seem to work. My solution is a bit of post it note over the sensor. Works a charm.

I don't doubt that the OP is trying to help people, but his settings seem very specific to the chosen 72 Hz refresh rate and his unknown graphics hardware.

Specifically, the Oculus Link Debug tool settings of Sliced Encoding, Encode Resolution Width and Encode Dynamic Bitrate completely knackered the bitrate from my 3080.

Only Off, 0 and 0 fixed that for me.

In fact, I've never managed to recover my desired 90 Hz framerate ever since trying these settings.

I abandoned Oculus Link, bought a second-hand Linksys wifi 6e router cheap from Amazon (probably a return, this old model works well on 6e but less well on other bands) and switched to Virtual Desktop. It's a lot slicker.

All is now well.

You have been warned.

Unknown graphics hardware? I stated many times in the video and description that I am running an i9-13950hx and 4090 laptop which is approximately a 3090/4070 TI. Shame on ya for not paying closer attention... 😁

The 3080 really isn't enough for the Quest 3 at max clarity. You were probably dropping into reprojection/asw, which causes massive artifacts. I have noticed that even when I disable it, it sometimes has to be toggled again to go away. The software kinda sucks...not our fault.

In good news, Meta finally fixed charging so now the battery doesn't drain while playing with Link!

The latest Meta Link Beta fixes the issue with OpenXR Toolkit. I was having crashes with the latest version of Open Composite and the latest Nvidia driver. I am now back on 552.xxx vs. 560.xxx. I reverted to this version of Open Composite (link to proper .dll that were linked to me via the Combat Box Discord with the proper .dll files to place in the Open Composite bin folder): https://discord.com/channels/562449901544538131/730723718090981400/1269007491124170866

Yes, it drops to like 90% but that's it.
