ICDP Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) Looking good as usual MPG but if I were to give some feedback, it would be that the sky spinner and tail band are too dark. Every WWII image of a dark green and ocean grey scheme fighter, had the sky band brighter than the underside camo. Obviously there would be variations but nothing I have seen suggests the sky tail band and sky spinner were darker than the medium sea grey underside used in the RAF Day Fighter Scheme. I also love this WWII original colour photo as it demonstrates perfectly how the camo and colours varied so much from what people try to claim is a uniform standard. At a glance you would conclude (or at least I have) that we have: One Spitfire in Day Fighter Scheme One Spitfire in Temperate Land Scheme One Hurricane in Temperate Land Scheme They have all had the new later roundels and yellow leading edge ID markings applied at some point. But this image was taken in Sept 1942 by the Empire central flying school, well after the introduction of the Day Fighter Shceme in August 1941. Spitfire P7926 and P7882 were both delivered prior to the change in camo standard and were used by various operational squadrons prior to being transferred to the Empire central flying school in 1942. So we are to believe multiple frontline squadrons did not repaint P7926 with the mandated camouflage scheme? So given this image was taken well into 1942, are we actually looking at three RAF fighters painted in the Day Fighter Scheme, but in whatever shades of "grey" the operational squadrons could make/get? Different tones for the camo, different "sky" band and prop colours, different yellows, blues and reds in the Type C roundels and tail flashes. They all have the yellow wing leading edge ID strips, Medium Sea Grey undersides (IMHO), which was introduced only with the Day Fighter Scheme. It really does highlight the folly of trying to nail down "historically accurate" perfection. Apologies if I have taken this too far off topic. This is allegedly the original iamge colours of the above. Suddenly the concept of the darker colours being a field applied "grey" becomes a probability. Edited March 4, 2024 by ICDP 4
Missionbug Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) To me that second image of the formation looks almost like as if they all carry the naval sea greys, cannot remember exact colours though, it might just be the colour cast of the image though or my eyesight who knows. Take care and be safe. Wishing you all the very best, Pete. Edited March 4, 2024 by Missionbug

pappy2 Posted April 8, 2024 Posted April 8, 2024 (edited) Hello “Marco” I found a defect in the painting of the top of the wings with the identification stripes version of the D-DAY. Maybe this is normal, or I didn't download the right version ? Despite this small detail, I thank you again for your extraordinary work. Edited April 8, 2024 by pappy2

pappy2 Posted April 9, 2024 Posted April 9, 2024 (edited) Thank you for your quick response “marco” 👍 The error is now corrected, however I find that the barrel bosses are now "a little too green" and according to the view "a little shiny". It seems to me that they should be matt black like the paint on the D-DAY identification stripes. But this is especially noticeable if we look closely. The train driver didn't see anything !! 😊 Edited April 9, 2024 by pappy2
