COOP troubles please help!

Good evening,

 

Apologies if these queries have already be explained. A friend and I are recently got this game, every time we play coop I have to change sides to allow him to select a plane, is this correct? Or is there something I am missing?

 

Furthermore do new missions load on top of unfinished missions? We seem to have trouble loading a new mission if we both crash. It just loads one map ontop of the ither making it impossible to figure out whats going on. Finally if we set unlimited ammo he always runs out?
