cruizzzzer Posted February 24, 2024 Posted February 24, 2024 As the title suggests, I would appreciate that you can START / STOP / RESET the stopwatch in the aircraft. As I am new to IL2 (flying since a few months) but not new to aviation, I was amazed that you cannot start/stop the stopwatch. As a VR-user a separate standalone stopwatch is no solution. Maybe there is a third party solution, such as an overlay for VR, but for immersion I would rather use the build-in aircraft stopwatch. I am aware that in the case of the Bf-109 the stopwatch starts running while selecting climb/combat power. So, in IL2 the stopwatch already works. All I need is to manipulate it via the key settings… In aviation there so many scenarios you need the stopwatch: 1. Starter duty cycles (okay, this is not a topic in IL2) 2. Flying a correct traffic pattern (according to the present wind velocity) 3. Basic navigation according to IAS/TAS and course This is the most crucial point that bothers me most 4. Setting up a reminder 5. Start: while selecting combat power; STOP/RESET: getting out of combat power (here in the Bf-109 the stopwatch keeps running) Maybe this stopwatch issue is no big deal for others, but for me this is essential as the speed indicator, altimeter, RPM and ata… Greets cruizzzzer 1 5
Mtnbiker1998 Posted February 24, 2024 Posted February 24, 2024 Agreed, stopwatch would be a VERY handy feature to have in VR. 1

Not exactly; it starts once you hit approximately 100kph, and continues running for the entire flight regardless of engine settings. Regardless, I completely agree that this is a must have. And just to let you now, they already thought of it, AND implemented it (in their last game- Cliffs of Dover). It is another one of the MANY features that Cliffs of Dover has, that they decided to cut out of for their newer "improved" sim. I don't get it... it's crazy how many features the older sim has that the new one does not.
Art-J Posted March 14, 2024 Posted March 14, 2024 Eh, that's quite a bit flawed way of looking at it. "They" didn't think about it and didn't implement it, neither did they cut out anything out of any sim because they had nothing to do with Cliffs in the first place. Let's keep in mind It's different "they". Different company, developers and game engine. Nothing common with the old one except "Il-2" moniker that publisher and IP owner slapped on a separate software for sale reasons. The better way to say would be - it's unfortunate that developer Y didn't copy some ideas implemented by developer X a few years earlier. On the other hand though, in this case - developer X flopped while Y is still in the business so one could argue the latter guys got a better feeling about what sells better. And functional stopwatch just ain't it. I understand RL pilots have different perception of what's important in flying but let's be honest - majority of any combat flight sim customers are not RL pilots and don't even know how to execute a proper traffic pattern let alone do any navigation without magic GPS'ish icons shown real-time on a map. I'd love to have a stopwatch for dreaded engine timer management, though. I play without technochat so it's difficult to figure out when it's time to decrease MAP and RPM. It's one of main reasons why I never got into GB as much as into DCS and CloD.
