Suggestions for Improvements

Enhancements:
- Have a user manual for the plane available in the game and in the hanger. The manual should have all the details about the aircraft including a visual instrument panel description, engine/aircraft performance graphs and data, etc.
- Allow user to walk around and look at airplane in more detail in the hanger, remove engine cover to see engine, zoom in, etc. It would be wonderful to see the engines in detail on these magnificent aircraft.
- It would be neat to be able to work on the airplane when in the hanger. Do repairs, pull the engine, fill up with fuel and ammunition. This isn't absolutely necessary, but it sure would add to the fun.
- Could the maps be connected into a complete world of the region? For example, all of western Europe? This would allow longer missions, such as bombing missions from London to Berlin.

Requests for additions (each one of these would be an expansion pack to buy):
- Battle of Britain including the early aircraft models used, the greater London area mapped
- Maps with complete Paris, Berlin, Moscow
- Mediterranean theatre
- North Africa theatre
- Pacific theatre (this would be big, Japanese and American aircraft, Pearl Harbor, Tokyo, numerous islands, etc.)

Your first three suggestions would be a lot of work and would almost certainly see very little use. There are many alternate ways to spend developer time that are much more worthwhile, affecting the core gameplay.

Making a megamap is probably not feasible with the current game engine and very hard to craft onto the current separate map system.

Your requests for city maps also seems infeasible with the current game engine. They can't even put bigger cities on the current maps, let alone one huge city.

No offense intended, but you must be new here...the IL-2 devs generally try to be efficient with their time and our money. This is why IL-2 is not as ambitious as DCS in some respects, but so much better for WW2 and way more cohesive and complete. It is a tradeoff. Sure, I'd love to fly over London and Paris and do BoB stuff, but there is no point of having Berlin without heavy bombers. The IL-2 devs don't typically spend time making planes for which there are no scenarios or maps. I personally think this approach is way better than the DCS everything goes approach where you have I-16s and Spit IXc earlier going up against 109 K-4s.

Thanks for the replies.  Yes I am new here and no offense taken.  Thanks for the clarification.  I better understand the limitations and where the programming time will be spent.  I am quite happy with what the game already does.  I guess I will have to wait for the Battle of Britain and Pacific versions one day... :)

What about having just a basic text only manual for each plane at least available while in the game?  Something like this:  https://aergistal.github.io/il2/planes/p51d15.html

Just something so one can better compare the planes and know what makes them tick without exiting the game and going to the web to research it.... especially when playing in VR.  Also useful when selecting optional engines.

You can read those guides while you are flying. They are in the full screen map. There's a menu on the right side of the map with two tabs. One shows the mission details and the other shows the plane specs

Thanks!  That is very helpful.  It would also be nice if a link to specifications for the  particular plane was available in the hangar view and also in the selection screen/map before you make your aircraft selection.  But it is workable as it is, just not ideal imho.

The one other thing about being able to look at the plane close in the hangar/shop view is not about adding a bunch of graphics, but rather being able to walk around and look at the plane and the graphics that are already there.  When I see all the detail and effort in putting the plane together, it seems a shame to not be able to see it all up close like you are there in person.  You can rotate the view in the hangar view, which is certainly appreciated, and can zoom in to a certain extent in replays, but it would be enjoyable to just be able to appreciate the plane up close like you are there.  For the engine, what if just the cowl can come off in the hangar/shop view so you can see it?  Isn't the engine already built underneath, as I thought I have seen it while in combat if the plane gets damaged badly or crashes?
