Deceased Gunner's MGs Still Tracking and Firing

I've been experimenting with the P47D-28 after the latest patch. At SL it still seems a pain to fly? so I set up a 1v1 against an "Ace" bf110-G2 at 10000m starting altitude. Early on I was able to hit the gunner. That didn't prevent his guns from tracking and firing though. Is this a known bug?
