=IRFC=kotori87 Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 (edited) I have noticed that the Nieuport 17 seems particularly explosive when flown with competitive multiplayer loadouts. In the past few weeks I have been exploded while flying Nieuport 17 GBRs numerous times. It is my most numerous death type in the craft, outnumbering pilot kills 3 to 1. These are not airframe failures due to accumulated damage, excessive G's, etc. These are catastrophic, holy-****-did-I-get-hit-by-flak explosions that leave tiny shredded bits of wings behind and nothing else. Two of the explosions happened from literally the first bullet of a dogfight occurring over friendly lines. I am aware that a lightly loaded fuel tank can potentially form a flammable or potentially explosive mixture inside. However, that problem was not unique to the Nieuport 17 GBR. No other aircraft in the IL2 Flying Circus stable explodes the way the Nieuport 17 does. Either other airplanes should be exploding much more frequently (I don't believe this is the case) or the Nieuport 17 GBR is exploding far too often. For anyone who wants to test, normal combat load for Nieuports on multiplayer servers is 40 liters. This is adequate for at least an hour of flying at altitude, easily enough for normal patrols on multiplayer dogfight servers. I was not recording flight tracks last time I flew the Nieuport, but I will post some tracks as soon as I am able. I usually fly the Nieuport 17 GBR on the Ad Astra server during their regular Tuesday events. Edited February 22, 2024 by =IRFC=kotori87
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 22, 2024 1CGS Posted February 22, 2024 Do you have any track files showing this?
=IRFC=kotori87 Posted February 23, 2024 Author Posted February 23, 2024 working on it. I will post again once I've been blown up a few more times. 1
RNAS10_Mitchell Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 Had similar experience in Camel today. Landed successfully, and plane exploded. No recording.
=IRFC=Gascan Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 That sounds different: you landed successfully, while the Noop has been exploding in combat. Should be able to fly on Friday and the weekend, will try to get tracks then.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 (edited) In the past something was changed and planes didn't exploded from long fuel tank fire, you could fly how long you wanted if a pilot was not in the fire. Before that change planes do explode after some time or when there was low fuel level and you were unlucky. We have two fire types in FC , engine fire and fuel tank fire. When I tested it , some planes did not catch fire when fuel tank was shoot up like hundreds times. Another thing that I noticed, was that fuel leaks do disappeared when an engine catch a fire. I think devs are trying to make fire/explosion more coherent in all airframes but something went wrong or it is an effect of changing somethings in other part of the game code.
