cardboard_killer Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 [80 years ago today] "• The RAF launches Operation Jericho, a precision strike on the Gestapo prison at Amiens following information that two Allied agents and a hundred French Résistance members are to be shot on February 19th. - The difficult strike is successful despite response by Fw-190 fighters of JG-26, freeing 255 prisoners while killing 50 guards. 37 prisoners are killed either by bombs or German gunfire. 182 prisoners will be recaptured and the Germans will commit 260 reprisal killings. Escaped Résistants are able to name sixty Gestapo agents and informants that had been instrumental in their arrests. Two Mosquitos and two escorting Typhoons are lost. One wall of the prison afterward" 1 1
