Sebwise Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 (edited) Trying VR with my new Pico 4 and can’t get satisfying FPS. running native resolution 100% in steam VR and VD. Running “high” settings on VD. 72 fps setting. Tried both automatic and HVC 10 bit codec settings. i get 50 bitrate running wireless and I’m sitting next to my WiFi 6 router. Can’t seem to get the bitrate higher don’t know why. Turned of automatically adjust bitrate and turned it up to 100 but still show 50 bits. Getting around 30fps with high settings in Il-2. my specs: Cpu: Ryzen 5 7600x Gpu: RX 6800 32 gig DDR5 should not my rig do a better job? tried tweaking settings and if I lower it more in IL-2 I can get the fps up a bit turning down everything but then the game don’t look so good and I barely reach 72 fps stable. latest firmware and drivers for everything. I’m an newbie in VR. Any suggestions from you guys? Edited February 18, 2024 by Sebwise
Aapje Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 Can you test with a cable? Sounds like your Wifi is the issue somehow.
Sebwise Posted February 19, 2024 Author Posted February 19, 2024 I will test today using cable. Now I manage to get the bits up even to 150. I even tried 90 fps. it is wierd it is not smooth but Steam vr overlay now show I can run 90fps stable. Looking at my monitor the amd adrenaline software overlay show around 45 fps on my monitor. steam overlay show latency around 40-60. Do you think I have fps problem (GPU) or latency problem (WiFi)? do you recommend USB cable to computer or USB c Ethernet adapter to router? or is it that I’m running steam VR together with VD that is the problem?

This was reported multiple times with the IL-2 Benchmarks. You can try to run them just with monitor to verify it is not a GPU problem. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/66924-syn_vander-benchmark-v6-to-measure-il-2-performance-in-monitor-vr/
Sebwise Posted February 19, 2024 Author Posted February 19, 2024 Thanks! On monitor I will get around 140 fps on 1440p and ultra graphics settings in IL-2 Normandy.
Sebwise Posted February 19, 2024 Author Posted February 19, 2024 Update. Tested the openXR without steam VR now. I still get around 35 fps when running single player with a loot of planes around me or close to the ground. Around 72 when higher up and not many planes around. Low graphics setting. is this what a RX6800 will give me? The GPU load and CPU load is still not so high but stuggling with FPS anyway. Don’t know what is wrong. should I lower the resolution from 100%?
DBCOOPER011 Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) I had a 6800XT a while back but could never get it to run well with IL2 in VR and sold it. I read that they had driver issues for VR in the past, but recently read that it was fixed. I run a 12600K/4070 system at 72hz with a pico 4 with some scaled back settings, so I imagine it may be your graphics card. I dont know though since 35 fps is pretty low I presume for a RX6800. The pico 4 thread has some good info in it that might help.. Edited February 20, 2024 by DBCOOPER011
Sebwise Posted February 20, 2024 Author Posted February 20, 2024 Thanks! Could you please link the pico 4 thread?
102nd-YU-cmirko Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) make sure that you're using the exact amd driver version which is currently recommended on Virtual Desktop discord some not so current version results in lower thread also Edited February 21, 2024 by 102nd-YU-cmirko

Sorry, I'm an Intel / Nvidia user so can't help with AMD cards. For what it's worth, I get a solid 72fps everywhere over a dedicated WiFi 6 link on 13900k / 4090 Edited February 21, 2024 by ACG_TBird edit
