1CGS LukeFF Posted February 17, 2024 1CGS Posted February 17, 2024 I replaced my RTX 3080 this week with a 4070 Ti Super. While my frame rates more than doubled in MSFS, in IL2 I am seeing the opposite problem - my frame rates were cut in half. I would always run IL2 with the 3080 at max settings, including 8x MSAA, so I figured I would do the same with the 4070 since my frames with the old card were in the 70s. I've gone into the motherboard BIOS and changed the PCIe settings from Auto to Gen 4, but that changed nothing. Before that I also did a full driver wipe and reinstall. Finally, I ran HWiNFO64 and didn't notice any problems there. So, is there something else I can do?
spreckair Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 I am anxious to see what others have to say. I still have my 3080, and my FPS dropped by about 30-40% about a week ago for no discernible reason. I have tried everything, but no joy.
69th_Panp Posted February 19, 2024 Posted February 19, 2024 I would check to see if Frame Gen is on or off, might be the difference in FPS between the two games.
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 19, 2024 Author 1CGS Posted February 19, 2024 One solution I have found is to lower my monitor's refresh rate from 144 to 120 hertz. That resolved some major issues I was having with MSFS. Still gotta troubleshoot IL2 some more.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 (edited) I have 4070 ti and 165hz monitor, fps are normal. I would try to turn off gsync, try fullscreen, windowed mode. I presume fps limit is off and vsync also. Try other drivers. Edited February 20, 2024 by 1PL-Husar-1Esk
kissTheSky Posted February 20, 2024 Posted February 20, 2024 Two things I can think of based on seeing similar threads on other forums. - latest drivers seem to have had similar effects in other games, namely, iRacing, so a roll back might be on the cards, and - Resizeable BAR discrepancy (on in bios, off in GPU manufacturer’s software, or vice versa).
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 20, 2024 Author 1CGS Posted February 20, 2024 Yes, I've tried different drivers, but with the card being so new one can only go back to about early January before the Nvidia search results page says the drivers are incompatible with the 4070 Ti Super. That said, with the card being so new, I imagine a driver update will fix problems like this.
jollyjack Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 (edited) I just got a Gigabyte 4080 super gaming OC, tested it at 120 Hz (3840x2160) with IL2, fullscreen on. (no VR) Aas for you on my system it runs OK, and quite faster than my old Gigabyte Aorus 3080ti. Even on some heavy game loads with IL2 you can get 8x time scaling. IL2 planes at warp speed? Current IL2 settings: Seems V-sync should be on i read with some (older?) NVIDIA cards. On mine it's set to 3d application. Had V sync on with my former 3080ti. Your PSU seems important too i read on various sites about a 4070ti, but that was in regards of a blue screen issue. But starting up steam and linked steam games: so far problems with scaling, have to dive into that. There are no updated driver or GPU BIOS versions yet for the newer Gigabyte cards, must be for other brands too. Tip: register it if you have a Gigabyte Aorus branded card ... you'll get 2 years extra warranty. Edited February 21, 2024 by jollyjack

I had occasional flickering with my former 3080ti and got fed up with finding a real cause, but it seems to have some influence
Lusekofte Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 I have no idea about gpu 4070 series. But what I read about them is not good. Some claim 4060 match it but do not quote me on this. It is so many “experts “ around and not to be trusted
jollyjack Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 (edited) Just wondered about IL2 and Multi Threading. IL2 runs fine on my system, but DCS.exe did not until i started it from it's bin_mt folder. How is MT working in IL2, always on? I have an i9 12900K CPU. Edited February 23, 2024 by jollyjack

You can check cores utilization online (in game)in monitoring app like MSI afterburner. Most games do split workload but main game thread is running on one core, draw thread can be also separated, as audio and animations, unfortunately most busy (game thread) is running on one core - hence more GHz and better IPC do resulut in better performance overall. Most cores are not occupied. In this days, in most cases CPU is bottlenecking the GPU. People do have strong GPUs but still playing at 1080p. So GPU is waiting for CPU to finish to output a frame.
