During the Battle of Kursk, at Syrtsevo July 8, 1943, Stukas pounce on Russian tanks to stop their counterattack.

Mission is from my yet unreleased mission:  Kursk_July8_Syrtsevo_Ju87G

note: I was just playing around testing the mission so I did not record it.  After doing so well (3 kills and 1 possible), I used "Capture the last 10 minutes" feature on my computer and was able to save it that way!

In the end, I still had eight 37mm shots left so I could have gotten more kills but then I got surprised and had to bite the dust!

The Second Battle of Borodino

In October 1941, 129 years after the Napoleonic battle, Borodino was again the site of major fighting.  This time the German Army was marching on Moscow.  The fields of Borodino had been selected months earlier for the same terrain advantages and location to be the last fortified defensive line before Moscow proper.  After six days of fierce fighting, German forces finally succeeded in penetrating the line at Borodino at a very high human and material cost.  But once again, the battle was pyrrhic.  The German army lost much of its most valuable resource — time.  The fast-approaching Russian winter combined with major logistics troubles prevented the German forces from continuing their offensive.

On a cold October day during the Battle of Borodino, Sturmoviks support a two-pronged tank attack on the German-held village of Artemki which is defended by anti-tank guns and tanks.

The Germans have taken Borodino Station while Sturmoviks are sent to destroy the train depot buildings which have been fortified by the enemy.

July 15, 1941. The already weakened Russian divisions defending Nevel had to fall back into the city and make plans for a retreat toward Velikie Luki.  Meanwhile, I-16 Ishaks are tasked with a mission to destroy the bridge leading into the city.

July 17, 1941, evening hour.  The German 19 Panzer Division is now at the gates of Velikie Luki.  They are parked in the wooded area south of Vorobetskaya getting refueled and rearmed and ready to take Velikie Luki tomorrow.  Mission:  Bomb and strafe enemy tanks and vehicles in the woods near Vorobetskaya.

July 28, 1941.  The Russians are slowly being pushed back towards Velikie Luki.  The defense is now centered on the town of Davievo.  The many lakes and wetlands in the area help with the defenses but the Germans always seem to find a way around them.

Mission:  Destroy enemy rocket launchers at Mukhino.

The Germans took Mozhaisk, Volokalamsk, and Naro-Fominsk in the middle of October but have not advanced further than that since then because they needed time to replenish supplies, and, frankly, they were worn down by Russian defenders.  Now, in the middle of November, the enemy is planning yet another offensive to take Moscow and it is scheduled to start very soon.  Our bombers are ordered to destroy material and fuel supplies intended for the new offensive.

Mission: Escort Pe-2 bombers to Naro-Fominsk.

The Germans have renewed their offensive to take Moscow.  Battles are being fought on the 5th Army's right flank, north of Kubinka.

Mission:  Patrol the area around the important supply depot of Zvenigorod.

On November 21 the Germans attacked along the Biryulevo-Myakshevo axis on the Nara River, intending to break through to the Naro-Fominsk - Kubinka road, so as to then get into the 5th Army's rear.

Mission: Four MiGs, armed with rockets, must attack enemy ground targets at Biryulevo and Myakshevo.

The German attack on November 21 was beaten back with heavy losses.  The next day, the Germans limited themselves to reconnoitering the Kamenskoe-Chichkovo area with a small detachment supported by tanks.

Mission:  Four MiGs must patrol the area as marked on the map. Intercept and destroy any enemy aircraft you encounter.

For several days the Germans probed for weak spots in the Russian defense, attacking with infantry supported by tanks.  On November 29, along the 43rd Army's front, there was observed a large concentration of vehicles and infantry  in the Chubarovo - Ol'khovo area.  Evidently, the Germans were planning to cross the Nara River there.

Mission:  Four MiGs, armed with rockets, will attack enemy vehicles at Chubarovo.

The situation around Naro-Fominsk was quiet on November 30 but the Luftwaffe was very active at Zvenigorod and further north.

The German 4th Army's attack on the Central Front began on December 1 on both sides of Naro-Fominsk.  The Luftwaffe tried to support this attack by attacking Vnukovo airfield three different times on this day.

Mission:  Vnukovo MiGs must scramble to intercept incoming enemy planes.

On December 1 the Germans launched their attack in the region south of Kubinka.  Motorized units supported by many tanks forced the Nara River near the village of Navaya and reached the Naro-Fominsk - Kubinka road, after which they continued to attack in the direction of the Minsk-Moscow highway that runs through Kubinka.   However, the Germans were stopped at Akulovo.  They then turned east from Golovenki and headed toward Yushkovo and toward Golitsyno.  The German "wedges" from Novaya and Zvenigorod were evidently aimed at Golitsyno, where the Germans intended to close their "pincers" around the 5th Army and open the shortest route to Moscow from the west.

Mission:  Four MiGs, armed with FAB-50 bombs, must attack enemy vehicles moving east from Golovenki.

By December 2 the Germans' forward units (Motorized regiment supported by 12 tanks) occupied Yushkovo and Burtsevo.  The distance to Vnukovo airfield was 11 miles and 19 miles to Moscow.  The assault was supported by Ju87 Stukas of StG 2 and Bf110 Zerstorers of II./ZG 26.

Mission: Four MiGs, armed with FAB-50 bombs, must destroy enemy vehicles in the Alabino area.

The Luftwaffe continued to support their ground units at Yushkovo and Burtsevo throughout December 2nd.  There were air battles over the area of fighting.

Mission:  Four MiGs must perform a fighter sweep over the Golitsyno-Yushkovo area.

The Germans' attempt to move up reserves to their units at Yushkovo and Burtsevo area was unsuccessful because the narrow forest road was under the observation and attack from the Red Air Force. This left the German units which crossed the Desna River in a very difficult situation.  To make their situation more difficult, the Red Army counter-attacked from the north, east, and south!

Mission:  Two MiGs, armed with bombs, must destroy the bridge on the Petrovskoe road.  This would prevent reinforcements from reaching the battlefield.

Attention: Friendly T-34s are attacking the area from the south (from Rassudovo).  Destroy the bridge and return to base immediately.

On December 4 the temperature dropped to 0°F (-17 °C) but the skies were clear.  While the fighting continued to the south of Golitsyno, to the north, in the Zvenigorod area, there was also heavy fighting.

Mission:  Two MiGs, armed with rockets, must attack enemy vehicles in the village of Gryaz'.  Three Sturmoviks will also attack the target.

The Germans were defeated in their attempt to capture Golitsyno.  By December 5 they had retreated back to the Nara River.  The Red Army's victories at Akulovo, Yushkovo, and Burtsevo helped to turn the tide in the Moscow defensive operation.

Mission:  Two MiGs, armed with bombs, must attack enemy vehicles retreating on the road from Machihino to Kamenskoe.

Note:  This is the last mission of the Golitsyno 1941 campaign.  This campaign will be available to download soon.

This thread will be for Bf 110 videos.  All Golitsyno Bf 110 videos will be here; more to come.

This first one is a tease for what I am working on now...

The situation around Naro-Fominsk was quiet on November 30 but the Luftwaffe was very active at Zvenigorod and further north.

(I am fairly new at flying the Zerstorer so please forgive my awful flying).

Don't forget to look here for more videos in the near future.

Wow! - Those videos were great. And the mission design with the makeshift runway on the road and cool details around the base. Very cool. I will have to try these. Thank you for doing this! ?

Nice, are they default missions for Po-2?

Thanks for the comments, guys.

There are a total of 11 missions for a campaign I'll be uploading soon.

I figured a road would be a natural runway since the Night Witches (and others) used very forward makeshift airfields that were close to the front lines.  They would then return to their main base at the end of the night.  Deep snow in an open field is not suitable for takeoff.  On landing, however, the snow helps to slow down.
