seems a bit odd to me

After flying many different sims and reading many books written by allied and axis pilots over the years the modeling for the Brit planes seems a bit odd for me.

Seems I can chase down d9s and g14s with a spit IX for example. (Please don't respond with the trim comment as the spit was not in perfect trim either)

The tempest seems to turn like a spit at low speeds. (please don't respond with the trim comment as I was flying the tempest and it was not in perfect trim)

There are a few other things that seem to make some of the Brit planes handle much better then I have seen modeled in other sims.

I don't get how I can out turn a g4 with a tempest or how I can chase down a d9 with a spit 9. Some of this stuff makes me wonder about the "modeling"

I'm guessing you're talking about single player career or quick missions?

I know I've outrun 4x Spitfire Mk IXe in a D9 at low level on Combat Box. Once I was boost and low level trimmed no way they could catch me... until I ran out of go juice ?

Maybe you were flying at lower altitude?

Bf-109 G4

Maximum performance turn at sea level: 21.2 s, at 270 km/h IAS.

Maximum performance turn at 3000 m: 27.2 s, at 270 km/h IAS.

Tempest:

Maximum performance turn at sea level: 20.0 s, at 270 km/h IAS.
Maximum performance turn at 3000 m: 27.8 s, at 270 km/h IAS

Maybe the D-9 had to drop to combat mode (from emergency power) and you weren't at low altitude?

Fw-190 D-9

Maximum true air speed at sea level, engine mode - Emergency: 607 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 2000 m, engine mode - Emergency: 641 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 5200 m, engine mode - Emergency: 694 km/h

Maximum true air speed at sea level, engine mode - Combat: 565 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 3200 m, engine mode - Combat: 623 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 6500 m, engine mode - Combat: 663 km/h

Spit IXe Merlin 70 engine:

Maximum true air speed at sea level, 3000 RPM, boost +18: 532 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 4900 m, 3000 RPM, boost +18: 634 km/h
Maximum true air speed at 8500 m, 3000 RPM, boost +18: 677 km/h

Is this a fight against ai? Any British fighter can out turn Luftwaffe ai pilots. AI is good on bouncing you and they can fly fast.

Flew the Spitfire IX on Combat Box a lot over the years and while its a fast and competitive fighter, we always knew that if a Bf109K-4 or Fw190D-9 (flown by a human who knew their aircraft's capabilities) was determined to disengage and they had speed... they'd get away. We'd never catch them.

Fw190D9 and Bf109G6 Late have much better acceleration that all Allies fighters, so that they can appear to outrun quite faster planes in the initial phase.

Make the mistakes a couple of time to shut down the boost too early and the Mustang or Spits where right on my back.

Nah. I'm talking about online. I know it's not skill cause I don't trim correctly and I've only been playing a few months. It my experience online it just seems like the spits are very fast compared to what I've seen in other sims.

This makes sense. We were on the desk.

This one I'm not sure about. The D9 dove for the deck and I'm guessing was in using boost and such but over a few miles I was able to catch him on the desk with the spit.

If it was online there could have been issues with various engine settings, or even simply damaging the engine from overspeeding in the dive etc.

What type of spitfire I guess. I was able to easily run a long race from the Mk IX... but a griffin engined spitfire would be a totally different story

I caught the d9 with a spit 9 which surprised me. I've caught many d9s with the spit XIV which didn't surprise me.

Kuban autumn at sea level.

A Spit IX with 150 octane goes 355 mph for 5 mins at 25 lbs boost and 3000 rpm or 10 mins at 25 lbs boost and 2900 rpm.

A D9 goes 375 mph with water methanol and the cowls closed for 10 mins. It goes slower with the thermostat open, I think around 360 mph. It's possible whoever you were chasing had the thermostat open or they don't know you have to engage the boost with a key bind. Without boost it goes 349 mph.

On winter maps the planes go faster, but I don't think the D9 gets as much of a speed boost. I'll test that.

Regarding the Tempest's turning abilities, there is a huge thread about that in the flight modeling section of the forum. The theory being the CL max is calculated incorrectly.

Thanks for the info. It's very helpful to a newer player like me.

You should use the Merlin 66 engine's specifications, as it is faster at low to medium altitudes; people rarely take the Merlin 70 unless they plan on flying over 7.5km
