kraut1 Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Hi All, For at least semi historic correct scripted campaigns it would be helpful to have an rough overview about the historic weather conditions for mission generation. Do we have in general sources for historical weather reports, weather conditions? Currently I am interested in the weather conditions at Operation Citadel, southern sector, from ca. 4th July to ca. 18th July. In general, of course it was summer. And there was a big Thunderstorm with much rain in the nigth of 4th to 5th July. But how was the weather in general during daytime in the mentioned time frame. It is not necessary for me to kow the exact weather conditions for each day exactly, but for mission design I would like to know if there was frequently good / clear summer weather or frequently heavy clouds / rain? Some temperatures I found there, but temperatures are not so relevant for mission design: http://thermo.karelia.ru/weather/w_history.php?town=kie&month=7&year=1943 Many thanks in advance!
357th_KW Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 American AARs from individual pilots, as well as mission reports for squadrons or groups often have a brief weather entry - stuff like “4/10ths cloud layer at 5,000ft - clear above” Is it possible that those kind of mission records are out there for one of the German units involved? 1

I would check the surviving Wehrmacht and/or LW unit records at the German national archives. That would probably be the original source for any secondary sources. I don't know of a similar Soviet historical collection. 1
