Yes. I have two installs on my computer, one modded for WWII and another for a modded Flying Circus install.

Mine is a steam install…how do i go about it…is it just a matter of making a copy of the folder and saving new shortcuts to desktop?

Are you aware that you can create profiles in JSGME?  You could remove all mods for MP, and later retrieve the SP mod profile and it loads everything you had saved and you don't have to load them individually.

Obviously up to you but I can report that I use JSGME profiles as does the group of people I fly with and have used them for a very long time. As long as you do not interrupt the process of loading or unloading the collection of mods it has worked flawlessly for years from my viewpoint. The other people I fly have the same viewpoint - it works fine for them and reliably will load mods correctly according to the profile. I believe JSGME has been around since the 1990s or early 2000s and was first used for the Silent Hunter games. There is also an alternative that some prefer called OVGME.

I think the only answer to your question is to give it a go. I believe the mods on or off setting is stored locally in the installation so as long as you use the same log in details for each install then you may be able to have all your owned content available in both. I am part of the testers group so I do have two installs, my own paid for one is modded and obviously the beta install is not. However, I use a different log in for each and so I see a different set of content in each.

I agree.  I have been using JSGME since it first showed up (right after what I think was the original in Panzer Elite).  It never has failed to load.  And, the profile system makes it even more functional, especially for your purpose.  Just build a profile for SP and delete the loaded mods when you want to go MP.  Then to get back to SP just load the profile and it loads the pack.  You don't have to do it by individual mod.  I have profiles for TC, WW1, and WW2 and jump back and forth when I want to change my game play.  Takes less than a minute to load an entire profile.  Takes up a lot less space in your storage than two copies of the sim.

I just click "mods off" in options when I wanna do MP, I don't bother unloading the mods with jsgme.

Granted, i only fly in private lobbies with friends so I can't speak for any public lobby anti-cheat that may exist

Actually, now I think of it the mods on/off option is also in the launcher settings so that is probably your best approach. So if you intend to do an online session, just go to launcher settings after you start the launcher and untick the enable mods option before entering the game proper. With that unticked you can safely have mods installed and still join stock servers as the game will ignore everything outside the gtp files when mods are off.

Although I still would recommend you build a mod profile for offline use as you can easily disable mods in jsgme whenever needed and then re-enable mods via the profile without the stress of remembering which mod goes where.

ok i will give it a crack…can you recommend what the must have mods are for SP…i fly in VR

I guess I would recommend things like my AI Gunnery mod, AAA mod and wingtip vortices but there are lots of others like historically accurate skins and skin packs for the official careers which add to the SP experience. There are VR specific things around too although I'm not knowledgeable about these as I don't have VR. Probably rather than game mechanics mods, graphical enhancements like the map texture packs or my longer burning fire and smoke for crashed aircraft mod or dynamic effects etc are the ones you will find improving your VR experience. I guess though VR needs to be careful of FPS hits so you would have to try things out and see how they go for you.

Generally, the mods to go for are those that are actively maintained by their authors as each game patch has the potential to make the mod be no longer in sync with the game. This is why in my opinion it is better to use a mod manager like jsgme than to manually install mods. Also, a mod manager makes it easier to determine which mod is causing problems after a patch as you can easily enable/disable mods individually in order to find the culprit and remove it from your profile until the issue is resolved.

Skycat put together a list by category, but you would need to check each mod of interest to you to find out if it is up to date or not. I personally do my best to keep people using my mods informed as to whether a patch has broken the mod or not and what I am doing about it.

Yep, with each update it might be wise to publish a pinned 'Working ModLlist Without Bugs' ASAP.

By now i tend not to use mods anymore. Last one i found here for 5.201 was about someone's favorites that worked:
