Less restrictive VR head movement in the next project.

As much as I loved how the GB series performed in VR, some of the head movement restrictions felt VERY conservative/over the top, to the point where it always felt like wearing a space helmet inside a cockpit. In many/most planes I simply could not get close enough to the canopy/dials/controls, I would always feel like I was several inches away from making contact yet the head movement would suddenly stop.

This really did ruin a lot of the VR gameplay for me, particularly in multiplayer where it was always enabled and in the tanks where you often couldn't turn your head on the spot without being taken out of the experience by an unrealistic stoppage.

Is there any chance that the restrictions could be toned down a bit for the next project? Or at least made an option on the user side rather than enforced on the server side?

I believe the problem is that VR head limits can only be cubes/rectangular and can't be tuned to the complex shapes of an individual cockpit. This is most apparent in the C-47 given its very angled canopy. Move your head around the limits of the cockpit and you'll find its a big cube, the corners of which bump right up against the glass close to the seats, but leave lots of dead space in the center of the cockpit where the canopy angles out. Hopefully that limitation is something that can be addressed in the "new project," as IL-2's head limits feature is a really great feature that I wish more VR flight sims had.

I will never love head movement restrictions as they just feel inherently "off" to me, but I could learn to live with them if they're more flexible.

If it were a choice between being able to clip a few inches through something rather than being held a few inches away from something, I'd prefer the slight clipping. But that's personal preference, and I wish it was at least an option you could choose.

Obviously I'd rather we just be able to get right up against the canopy/dials etc, but if that isn't practical/doable then another option would be appreciated.

Try the C47 and see how bad VR head movement allowance is.  Then look at real life in-cockpit footage and see how much easier it is to move head in real life.

In-game in C47 it is like the pilot is wearing a huge space helmet in the cockpit.  :negative:

For this reason I will not purchase any more transport aircraft from IL-2.

The fighters are not so bad and one can try to adapt, but unfortunately not all fighters are equal in this respect, lol.  Some are still like wearing a space helmet for just moving head a little forward whilst looking down; strange stuff going on in some ac.

Happy landings,
