T24_Martin Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 Hello, I know GB is a bit out of development focus but I still want to challenge this topic. I use exclusively OpenXR for my VR flightsims. It gives me a decent performance boost. I don't know why, but it also runs more stable in GB, compared to steam VR, where I get constant crashes. I switched from a G2 to a Crystal and from what I experience in DCS with foveated rendering is simply amazing. I can boost almost all graphics to max and keep native resolution. With the same hardware I achieve a better experience. In a time where GPUs costs are extreme it would be a great addition to this SIM to open other possibilities to get better performance. Another point is, that the high end headsets are getting crazy resolutions. A decent performance is only possible when not the whole picture is rendered at full resolution. Otherwise we need to downscale the resolution what is somehow strange. Eye tracking also enables the Almalence feature. It is a digital technology to improve the picture without the need of different hardware. For me it works great in DSC or MSFS, but GB crashes, just because it doesn't allow eye tracking. So I am definitely committed to GB and hope to play this for years. I can not estimate the effort needed to implement these two features, but it would be great if they could find a way into my beloved SIM.
MoleUK Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 I would love to see Quad view being supported as well. https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated/wiki
Dagwoodyt Posted February 5, 2024 Posted February 5, 2024 I've been using the Varjo foveated mod with an Aero. In GB it will crash after a variable amount of time, but the mod definitely improves gpu frametimes while active. Given their silence I'd guess the GB team is unlikely to spend time trying to figure out how to get foveated mods to work in GB given the limited number of headsets that support foveated rendering. Time spent updating VR support would likely interfer with new project timelines. Still, it would be reassuring to know that improving support for VR is part of their planning process.
