HazMatt Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 I'm asking these questions because as much as I like IL2 after playing for a couple months, I think it could easily be a whole lot more based on what I've seen on different servers. I have really enjoyed playing on the combat box server and think they add a lot to the game. Why is SRS standalone and not integrated like the comms on other similar games like Aces High 3 World War II online etc? If integrated comms are not an option. How about a "check 6" key where you could have the player you are looking at receive a check 6 call on the radio? Why are the ground vehicles isolated from the air bases and not available like other similar games like Aces High 3 World War II online etc? I think spawning an antiaircraft truck on a base that's being vulched would be a bunch of fun. I know some maps seem to have a strategic level to them with things able to be captured and front lines moving but it seems to be almost an after thought. Some examples of this are: In WW2 online and AH3 there are factories that can be bombed that will affect supply or down times of certain objects. I think maybe some of this stuff can already be added to maps but I don't know how that works.
R33GZ Posted February 4, 2024 Posted February 4, 2024 Most of the things you have mentioned do exist in online servers. As you will have noticed, there is no integrated comms... not sure why. Most people use SRS, TeamSpeak or Discord. With regards to vehicles such as mobile AAA there are no player controlled US/UK assets at the moment, which is possibly why they aren't on CB? As far as tactical targets go, this is implemented to some extent on CB when the Apollo Campaign is running. You should also have a look at the Tactical Air War campaign, which I believe is running at the moment, that is probably closer to what you are talking about re factories and supply etc. Ultimately it is up to the mission designer as to what is or isn't included in a mission/campaign, rather than it not being possible. The mission editor is extremely flexible... you just need a degree in relativistic physics to be able operate it to its full capability ?
HazMatt Posted February 5, 2024 Author Posted February 5, 2024 Cool. Thanks for the info. I have noticed that the missions are very diverse, however I was basing it on my experience on the servers that I spend most of my time on. Those are the "official" servers and combat box. I really like how you can interact with the tower and control on combat box and sometimes they have radar control officers on vectoring planes. I must say that implementation is one of my favorite.
kestrel79 Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Combat Box w/SRS is awesome. I wish it was somehow integrated into the stock game, agreed. Maybe in the new project? It really adds to the immersion. Back when I had more time to play flying on CB w/ SRS in VR was flight sim nirvana for me.
Flying_Anchor Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 I'm very couriosited why voice chat was not implemented in the game with only team deathmatch mode. Its a common idea since 2000, isnt it?
Youtch Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Fully agree that Combat Box w/SRS is awesome is currently the best way to enjoy Il2 in Multi Player. Pity that the servers are not always with a lot of people, or some people are relucant to use SRS while playing. Maybe it desserved to be more advertised by 1CGS. Once I discovered the joy of the SRS integrated com, I could not go back to any other server. You can manage also some automation through voice attack programmation.

Developing VOIP would have to come at the expense of other development efforts, both in terms of cost of licensing a technology and/or programmer cycles, so I think very pragmatically they decided not to and instead encouraged the author of SRS to do an IL-2 implementation. It was a somewhat similar story for DCS World which for years had only SRS as its only integrated voice comm system. They are slowly implementing their own, however, it's taken years and DCS is a much bigger product.
