Screen settings?

Not sure where to ask this, but I'm sure someone will find the right place. (Thanks in advance)

I'm having a real problem tracking enemy aircraft, they seem to just disappear in combat. If I don't check my six, I get smoked, if I do, I lose my target.  Losing the enemy against the background is a real problem. But it doesn't seem to be a problem for "The bad guys". Is there some "tweaking" to be done on the way my monitor displays things that may help out?

I just had my cataracts removed, and have new glasses. It has improved, but is still a problem. Any help would help.

Thanks,

I've heard of some guys saying lower resolution on the monitor helps, but I cant see how? If you have a 1440 monitor, then try using 1080, but again, I don't understand how that would help.

I've flown with some VR users who could see distant objects much earlier than me, so maybe that helps for moving aircraft too?

Sounds like what you really need is a wingman. Dogfighting solo nearly always results in me becoming a fiery smear on the ground

I've found these useful:

Computer glasses helped me with this problem. I'm an old fart that wears trifocals. Spoke to my optometrist about it and he gave me a prescription based on my viewing distance from the monitor. Problem solved.

What I found was works great too..............

Hit the little black window box that one uses to shut computer down.

Above the "Power" there is a little wheel. Click that and hit settings. Go into systems / display..... One can adjust the screen size. I went from 100% to 175% and holy cow!!!

Wouldn't that make your vision-able action scene much smaller? You can st this to 100, 125 and 150% in the game-graphics settings too IMO.

EDIT:

Found what you are talking about, but it doesn't want to allow me to change the setting. Thank you for trying to help.

IMO you've got to do that with the game is running, not via the launcher. Probably asks for a restart when uoy set it.

Short version without getting too technical here, the game does not scale the size of contacts for resolution or monitor size, which is something that should really be addressed, but I doubt it ever will be as it's a pretty complex task and the game is on life support in terms of active development. So if you run 1080P on a 32" monitor, the contact will be more pixels, and a bigger "dot" to track on your screen at the same distance when compared to 1440P.  As a result, contacts will appear roughly 60-75% larger, which at around 6-8KM plus distance wise is the difference from being able to see a plane versus it being effectively invisible to you. You could go more extreme in lowering resolution to *see* contacts, but then your ability to ID the plane will be completely compromised due to the loss of detail in the lower resolution.

There is nothing new about using a low resolution to help spotting.  Many players back in the original IL2 did this. It was especially popular for squads that engaged in competitive team play.

First to sight wins the fight.

On the Launcher, Settings, un-check Interface Autoscale if it is checked.  It automatically scales the UI font for you and grays out the Settings/UI Scale in the sim.  I use 150% in the game settings.  But that only changes the fonts on the menus and pages making it easier for us old guys to read the print.  However, it doesn't change the scale of the objects.

It's my understanding that higher resolution makes it easier to identify aircraft but harder to see distant objects, while lower resolution gives better distant spotting but makes closer targets less distinct.  I'm running 3840x2160 with 250% in the Windows Display settings on a 42.5" 4k Predator using the settings in the link I posted (except I use 1 on Gamma).  I see aircraft at least 5-8 miles away.
