I am going to repost a question I put on Show your cockpit thread, as it is a different topic.

A question for the experts regarding the position of the stick, more concretly its angle compare to center line.

This is for a configuration where the stick is in the middle of the legs like most of ww2 fighters (not on one side of the body f35 style).

I understand that in this case, it is good to ensure that the stick is twisted toward the rigt hand (if you are right handed) with some angle for a better alignment with the arm laying on the leg. One of the answer suggested an angle of 19 degrees.

I see many opted for giving an angle to the grip to ease grabbing it with the hand and facilitate access to button and better comfort.

I see that the angle deviation is applied almost only at grip level but not at the base level.

Wouldn t it make sense to apply to some extend an angle deviation to the base as well?

This is especially relevant for stick with 20mm as there is a bigger amplitude of movement from one side to another, and would probably flow more naturally.

Although it might end up bumping the stick more frequently on the left leg... which is another thing to pounder.

Intuitively I would assume the following:

Because the elbow is not on a center line but quite displaced the right side, the natural movement for rolling as coming from the elbow cannot be in a straight perpandicular line either.

So without an analge on the base you would have to compensate by pushing a little when rolling to the left and pulling a little when rolling to the right, which is unatural.

This was my reasoning based on anotomical consideration, but I have no real experience in the matter, this is why I am asking.

What are your thoughts on this?

Anyone has experimented with putting an angle to the base?

Many thanks in advance,

y.

Hi, my stick deflect 18° front/rear and left/right, but it isn't angled at base. Grip only is slightly angled, is a german KG13 replica. Link tube is slightly curved as per WWII fighters. I tried to have a quite faithful replica of WWII fighters control stick, but no ergonomic considerations.

Ciao!
