I'm new in VR world - Oculus Rift S -

Recommended Posts

Hi all...

This is the day: I stole my nephew's Oculus Rift S to try IL2 in VR. I know it's an older model but before spending money on something more modern I wanted to see how I would react to the 3D world.

I installed Steam VR (after Oculus Main App) and set IL2 to run in VR. Game starts and run properly but I noticed that I can't reash 50FPS.

So, I have 2 questions for more advance palyers:

1- Can I do something to gain more FPS?

2- Can I do something to improve my virtual neck rotation?!?! eh eh

Here my sistem:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D @ 4,2GHz

RAM: 64 GB

GPU: Radeon RX7900 XTX

HARD DISK: 500GB SSD + 2000GB SSD

SO: Win 11 64bit

and here my IL2 setting (see image below):

Try turning the MSAA down to 0 or at the most 2. You can probably bump up a lot of the other settings with MSAA at 0. MSAA is a bigtime resource hog. Also make sure vsync in the NVCP is off or on fast..

Thanks for your reply...I've tryed to switch MSAA at 2 or 0 but the result dosent change: always 48, 50 FPS in game.

There must be something in your setup that is limiting your framerate, maybe in the radeon software? I dont have an AMD card so I cant help further on that aspect. I do know that you should be getting much better framerates with that setup..

This is a wise first step for VR

Try first to deactivate your Vsync checkbox.

Also, in SteamVR you have an option to visualize your GPU and CPU frametimes while you are playing (you see that in the monitor):

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamVR/Frame_Timing

It is also tru that AMD graphics card were having some troubles with IL-2 VR in the past. There are some posts about it.

Regrding the checking six you have two options: do some warming exersices before jumping to cockpit or use VRNeckSafer apps. (it is a kind of TrackIR but in VR)

For better use of the rift S, use Oculus Tray Tool, Open Composite and OpenXR for bypass SteamVr and get more fps.

Seconded on that advice.  I now have Q3, but definitely the three tools mentioned.

Hi friends...

Today I did some testing and now I have a stable 60 fps. I downloaded Opencomposite and OpenXR toolkit and now my game run really well.

but..there is always a "but".

With OpenComposite, necksafer gives me an error (image). Now, I'm trying to find a solution for this problem but in the meantime I would like to ask those who use opencomposite their settings...so I can start from a correct setting.

I just got a Q3 too, first VR set. I’m using Quest Link (wired) with Steam VR.

do you find any visual improvement using open composite and open XR or only FPS?

Another tip, try to turn off antialiasing, shadows off, and all settings on normal.

On Oculus Tray Tool use 1.3 or 1.2 super sampling and ASW Off.

Regards.

Yes, and I'm using cable etc as you are, although I don't fully understand some of the settings myself, and have just guessed the resolution settings for example! I found that increasing world scale helped a lot.  Also, experimenting with colours gave a good visual enhancement.

Only FPS...image quality is pretty the same that I had before.

In the next days I'll try to install Oculus Tray Tool following @GOA_Karaya_VR advices.

Thanks for the replies guys...
