muff1n Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 just wanna know what is your opinion on the max cockpit reflections, normal looks bad, but max looks quite good, but I think it's too much, if these would be more toned down like 50%, then it wouldn't be an immersion breaker for me I assume in MP everybody plays with them set OFF, but I like the max reflections, but these should be more faded, not so much in your face
spreckair Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I agree that max reflections is just a bit over the top. If a WWII glazing was always as clear as crystal, then it might make sense. I don't know for sure, but I would venture to guess that 1940's cockpit glazing was not as shiny and reflective as it is today.
Barn-Owl Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 I turn that non-sense off. It only gets in the way when in multi-player. 1 1 2
Gambit21 Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 E-games mentality is beside his point FYI. He’s asking max reflection setting is representative of what a WWII canopy should look like. Probably not so much.
IckyATLAS Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Depending on the material they were very prone to scratches. This why they generally tried to keep them as clean as possible, mainly the front part of it. Worst cases when you take off in groups on dirt runways, or flying in desertic, sandy conditions etc. Too much or too little difficult to define, you had a little of everything in reality.
Schmehl Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 I agree that the max. setting seems like too much. Certainly, having no reflections improves visibility, but I try to use settings that I think are realistic and the normal setting appears about right to me. 1
Jaegermeister Posted January 16, 2024 Posted January 16, 2024 Still shot from a video inside the cockpit of a Spitfire with a Malcomb Hood. It's not always that obvious, it comes and goes with the lighting. The distortion through the curved ports above the armored glass I never noticed before now. 2
Audgisil Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 (edited) The in-cockpit you tube videos are a good idea for showing examples. Here is a picture from inside a 109. The reflections are so clear that you can not only see the opposite wing in the reflection, but you can see the Mosquito that the 109 is right next too while preparing to take off. [CPT]Crunch Posted January 19, 2024 Posted January 19, 2024 When's the last time you noticed the reflections on your cars glass, think a pit is any different? It ain't.

Curved Plexiglass or perspex or sheet acrylic or whatever you want to call it looks different from a glass car windshield. 1

Aye, the reflective properties, index of refraction are different. Effect is still a bit too "brand new plexi" though.

Audgisil Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 I can already imagine the amount of complaining if they added more scratches or abrasion that would be visible from certain angles, even (ever so) slightly increased opacity, or included slight warping due to refraction to the canopies. I'm not saying the current amount of reflectiveness is 100% right or wrong, but the videos at least offer some good evidence. It's pretty certain that those canopies are also older than a few months, even if they are not the originals. The flight crews are naturally careful and take good care of them, but the so did the flight crews back then as well.
YoYo Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 For me they are ok and look cool (maybe it could be nice to se better resolution only).
Hook_Echo Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 Is it me or do different planes have vastly different amounts of reflections? I have it on the highest settings, and in the Spit IX, the plane I fly most, I hardly even notice it. But maybe I'm just used to it there. Then in some other planes it really catches my eye. Even on high the reflections are much tamer than DCS, and the reason I don't like to play CLOD is the feeling of no glass at all.
HazMatt Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 The thing that I've noticed (mostly fly the 109) is when you get into clouds the reflections make it very hard to see much to the point of having to turn it off. Maybe it's just me.
