[80 years ago today] "• The McDonnell XP-67 “Moonbat” has its first flight. Designed as a long ranged heavy interceptor with six 37mm cannon, its engines will fail to deliver promised performance and be prone to catching fire. After the prototype burns later in the year, the $4.7 million project will be cancelled.

Pity. Such a cool looking airframe. Reminds me of the Bugatti 100 which, unfortunately never came to fruition.
