sammydee Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Is there a way to stop the camera shake that happens when a flak burst comes close to the aircraft? I thought first of all it was tied in with a mod but for me running vanilla it still happens. I've looked through the various game options but I can't see anything relating to it. 1

sammydee Posted January 2, 2024 Author Posted January 2, 2024 1PL-Husar-1Esk Thanks for your reply. I've gone through all camera settings in the Camera section of Options and in Key Mapping and Realism but I can't find a Camera Shake option. The only way I've found to stop the shaking is to turn off the Cinematic option which I don't want to do. I've been playing this game for years and I can't recollect this happening before the last update. Just personal preference but I really don't like the shaking. Regards sammydee.
Billsponge1972 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 If you open up the startup.cfg inside your data folder you'll find this; Shake=1 Change it to; Shake=0 ...and save. See if that works.
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Should someone tell him what flak is? 2
Dragon1-1 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Yeah, it's fragmentation rounds. They won't be shaking your aircraft unless it's a direct hit (in which case you're toast, WWII flak rounds were rather big). 1
Billsponge1972 Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 My bad, Shake is for aircraft shaking from the onboard guns. The shaking from a near flak hit is called realism.
sammydee Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 I don't think the aircraft is shaking, it's the imaginary camera in the sky and through all the WW2 aviation books I've read over the years I never read of aircrew seeing one of those. =DW=_drewm3i-VR Flak is what I get off my wife when I go drinking after a football game.

Thy do , let alone passing shell above or below airplane would ballon up or down light plane. 12 hours ago, sammydee said: 1PL-Husar-1Esk Thanks for your reply. sammydee Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 1PL-Husar-1Esk Thanks again for your suggestion but I never have the Headshake option activated.☹️

I do not see that effect in the game and many times was near flak burst. Video/replay recording of that effect would be helpful.
MajorMagee Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Perhaps it's tied to having cinematic effects turned on?
sammydee Posted January 4, 2024 Author Posted January 4, 2024 1PL-Husar-1Esk That's interesting. Do you have Cinematic effects turned on? MajorMagee Yes if I turn cinematic effects off there is no shaking but I prefer Cinematic effects on so, it is what it is. ?
DragonDaddy Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 As you see, camera shake is part of Cinematic Effects. Can’t have one without the other.

Rattled, yes, you'd certainly hear them. The rattle itself would be shrapnel glancing off the skin, but the boom would certainly be audible. It would not shake the aircraft, though, like a turbulence would. Camera shake is inappropriate, but bass shaker going off would be OK.
DragonDaddy Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Combatants who have experienced heavy flak in real life say things like “ the flak was so heavy you could walk on it”. My guess is you could hear it and feel it even if not a hit.
Art-J Posted January 13, 2024 Posted January 13, 2024 Shrapnel aside, an air pressure wave is an air pressure wave. The plane is not moving in vacuum. If the shell big enough goes boom close enough, it could bump the plane a bit. 2
