Hey everyone!

In this video, Daniel (aka Han) and Viktor (aka =FB=VikS) talk about the 2023 releases and the IL-2 team's plans for 2024.

The Q&A part ended up being almost an hour long, so it will be in its own video that we'll be releasing soon (as soon as its English voiceover is done).

Happy New Year!

F4U-4, B-29, IL-10 and late Yak-9 seem to indicate Korea to me!

For me it was the USATC locomotive... that was when I went 'Oh, it is then'! ?

However, that is my personal belief... no official confirmation obviously. But it seems pretty obvious.

I can't wait to see all those goodies coming in 2024!

Did I see a 4 engine allied bomber passing by? The TA152 high altitude interceptor makes sense against those bombers.

Thanks for this very positive update!

Neat to hear that the Odessa map is back on the menu, and that it and Karelia are to get career mode.

Yep. Odessa 1944 career mode and planned La-7, Yak-3 and Ju-87 D5 are something to look forward to.

It sounds like:

- Updated engine will have some new terrain features, improved atmospheric lighting, PBR textures, improved trees, improved damage model (for vehicles as well as aircraft), and larger formations in single-player.

- Some ongoing support for existing modules is planned: Odessa map as well as Karelia (with early and late war scenarios), and they announced tentative plans for three more potential Collector Aircraft (Ju-87D-5, Yak-3, La-7). The remaining land-based aircraft from Rise of Flight weren't mentioned, but I assume they are also on the list.

What else? What did I miss?

Now that is an interesting thought! Well, the Ta-152H was designed to intercept the B-29... so it'd work, weirdly enough. A bit of alternative history... but that is fine by me (if people even slightly tolerate alternative histories, it opens the path for a He-162 afterall)!

Sounded like the improved engine is to support larger numbers of aircraft/assets in a mission.

I suspect that they are just showing us a few objects - not the new terrain. That is my guess anyway.

It does sound like that. They've also shown a four engined heavy bomber too!

Well the Ta 152 never intercepted a B-29, and they won't be venturing into the IL2 1946 alternative history, and looking at those pictures you all now know where this is going.

All true. Although a few slight changes in decision making (e.g. deploying the B-29 to Europe) could've changed that. If both exist in the same game engine - you know I'll try it (and probably most of us will).

Well, if they are going PBR direction in a new project it means it will not be compatible with the GB. I remember they said before that it was impossible to change all the existing objects to PBR. Do I get it right?

I wonder if they could add two more 1944 aircraft and make it a 'half module'? Might increase sales if we have to buy all of them to get one? It'd be nice if they found a way to fund another twin-engined aircraft for that period (A-20G? Tu-2? Ju-188?)... that is what I'm thinking.

I'm not sure. Does anyone know more about rendering pipelines? Isn't it possible to have an engine that can run non-PBR textures alongside PBR textures?

Well, if it isnt Korean War, then thats one hell of a wind up lol

Yes Late war Japan with a bigger map mean bigger plane set cost over over 100 quid lol

Well, the tank is an IS-1 isn’t it? That didn’t see action in Korea did it?

I mean there is one base where the B-29's can reach most of Asia

Yes, Han said that in another interview...

IS-2 mod 44, China had them, and I think might have sent some to Korea.

Did they also say they couldn't do 4 engine'ed bombers ?

and boom a B-29. I guess this new engine has allowed them to do things they couldn't do before.

Well, we know it'd be excessive work to upgrade all existing assets. However, we still don't know if they will be able to be used in the same engine (i.e. mixing old and new assets). Do all DCS assets have PBR textures? I don't think so... so it is still possible.
