How to discontinue an escort of planes and continue on to another aspect of the mission.

I don't know if this has been addressed in another thread, but how do I get a flight to discontinue their escort and continue on to another feature of the mission?

Trigger a Force Complete - High and then your new task.

Jäegermeister,

Thanks.  I’ve not used a Force Complete before, is it different from deactivate and how?

Some Commands like Escort don't deactivate, but I always deactivate them before triggering the force complete anyway.

Force Complete with "High" checked in the advanced properties dialogue box does what it says, It forces the current action to end.

It is usually accompanied by a radio call saying "Return to Formation and Continue the Mission" which is annoying because it is not always appropriate.

I always trigger Force Complete High to end an attack, attack area or escort, then trigger the next waypoint or whatever.

It is also used to turn off search lights, or make AI vehicles and weapons stop firing. It's like clearing the memory of the AI.

Force complete with "Low" checked turns searchlights on and permits weapons and vehicles to fire at will within their physical limits. If you combine it with an attack area or attack command however, they do not fire at all.

There may be some other uses that I have forgotten at the moment.

Yeah get in the habit of using it.

Force Complete, 1 sec or .5 sec timer, push to next waypoint etc.

Gambit and Jäegermeister,

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll give it a try.

Also there is a check box for Emergency Ordnance Drop. You can select that to make sure your stupid wingmen don't fly all the way home with their bombs if they run out of targets. That is how you make a C-47 drop a glider also.

I still don't know what Force Complete "Medium" is for. Maybe someone else out there does.

Thanks, I have not realized this before.

Jäegermeister,

Don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I can’t seem to get Force Complete (FC) to deactivate the escort.  I’ve activated the FC with a  target link from a trigger timer set to one second and set the object for the FC command as the flight leader of the flight escorting the cargo planes (C-47’s).  Any suggestions?

That sounds right, do you want to post the mission and I will take a look?

You should copy past an attack sequence group for him if you have time.

I would but I uninstalled GB for now.

OK, so I'm pretty sure your problem is how you triggered the Force Complete. Once the 3rd flight is escorting the C-47s, they don't follow their waypoints anymore, but you used one of their waypoints to trigger the Force Complete to end the escort. The odds of them hitting a 200 meter waypoint while weaving above the C-47s is slim to none.

I moved them around so I could see what was going on...

Try triggering the Force complete with the C-47's waypoint instead, and it should work. Then trigger your message and the next waypoint for the escorting P-40s right after that with another timer.

Also you should probably use waypoints at least 600 meters in diameter for fighters as a general rule, due to changes in the AI maneuvering. If the waypoints are close together they may miss them and then just fly in endless circles because it is too small for them to hit. I use 800 meters now.

Jägermeister,

Well, I seem to be having another issue.  I've done what you suggested and the Force Complete appears to be working as the escort flight stops escorting the C-47's when they reach Way Point 3 (WP), but they continue to circle WP3 and will not proceed to the next WP.  I've extended the range of WP's to 800m, reconfigured the route, etc.  Is it possible by activating FC it changes the actions of the 3rd flight completely?

probably either Waypoint 3 is not targeting waypoint 4 or waypoint 4 is not object linked to the flight leader. Also go through each timer and make sure they are set correctly and not like 2 minutes.
