jcole Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Quick question: anyone here using the turtle beach velocity one flight stick in COD/DW? It’s relatively new and appears to have lots of capability. I just got one (to replace my second Thrustmaster 16000M) and am challenged by its set up. Seems involved. If anyone had this, I’m curious as to your thoughts, experience and how you set it up . Mod, please move if I placed this in the wrong place. Thanks……
jcole Posted December 25, 2023 Author Posted December 25, 2023 Hmm…guess no one has experience with or used this flight controller……..
AKA_PumpkiCraterman1 Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 I am using it. I like it, have had it about 8 months. I too was using the 16000M, but it had it's issues.
jcole Posted December 26, 2023 Author Posted December 26, 2023 Yes, the 16000M I have lost the yaw/Z axis control (both units). I tried the Hall sensor/magnet repair but there’s more to it than the YouTube videos let on. I picked up the TB Velocity 1 on a sale and thought I give it a try. It’s nice but there’s a lot to it. That’s why I’m asking for others experience and lessons learned on setting it up.
jcole Posted February 17, 2024 Author Posted February 17, 2024 Hmm…. Must not be a popular unit. Guess no one else is using this control stick, so there’s no lessons learned to pass on……..

Guess no one else is using this control stick, so there’s no lessons learned to pass on…….. The stick is new, and is catered to the mass markert. A stick that is popular with the new MSFS2020 crowd. Not a lot of old hands use it. They either use the old stuff like x52/56 or Thrustmaster warthog or newer stuff like virpil or winwing. I assume you've tried to use the joystick wizard? And then uploaded the config file in the game?
jcole Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 Yes, I’ve up loaded the wizard files. The joy stick works but I’m probably not using it to it’s full potential. There appears to be numerous menus and submenus that allow one to tailor the stick. I was hoping for tips on the tailoring of the stick…….
LLv34_Flanker Posted February 23, 2024 Posted February 23, 2024 S! How I did setup my controllers(Virpil, MFG, DY) was done in game. There are 2 tabs: Keys and Axis. Axis assignment is easy, just click and move desired axis to get it. In keys I went through different categories(General, View etc) to map buttons and switches. A bit labor intensive, but once done no real need to touch them anymore. And you can save different button setups per plane, just click "Save as" after setting up. Easy to load key bindings for a different plane, like going from 1 engine plane to a bomber or dual engine heavy fighter. The key bindings could be de-cluttered of stuff the game does not even use, quite a few of those commands in there. 1
jcole Posted February 23, 2024 Author Posted February 23, 2024 Yes, thank you. I’ve programmed the stick using the in-game key/axis function. This turtle back stick can be programmed as well, on its own, separate from the in-game. Thats what I was asking about. But thanks again……….
ZiggyZiggyStar Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Despite the complexity of programming it, have you been happy with the Turtle Beach Velocity One as a joystick and throttle option for IL2?
jcole Posted April 13, 2024 Author Posted April 13, 2024 Frankly,……no. This may be an unfair assessment as I have less than 50 hours on the stick, however, I find the stick to be very “twitchy”and overly sensitive to flight control inputs in most axis. It is too easy to over shoot altitudes and headings and trying to trim the a/c for straight and level, unaccelerated fight is a challenge. I did not have these issues with the MS SW Force feedback nor the TM 16000M sticks. The stick is programmable on its own, separate from the game and while I’ve attempted to adjust the stick via the game settings, the results are not satisfactory. My impression is the stick program is “fighting” the game controller for input force and sensitivity. This is why I asked the forum members here for any insight and experience other owners of this stick have had. Right now, I would rate the MS Sidewinder and the TM 16000M (for me, each had their own in-game problems) ahead of this turtle back stick. 2
ZiggyZiggyStar Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 Thanks for your opinion, very much appreciated. I did some YouTubing and redditing and foruming and I have decided to go for the vkb nxt gladiator evo space premium stick. I think I have the name (roughly) right. I have been using a ms force feedback and a ch fighter stick but I was needing more buttons at my fingertips (in vr). This hopefully will take the place of those two sticks, but I am also getting a vkb GNX SEM which attaches to the gladiator for more buttons.
