tonric-73686_ Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Hello, Any reason why the AI doesn't fly at the waypoint speed of the flight route? I've done a couple of 110 career missions and the waypoint speed should be 380k/h. On the way out our speed was 310k/h and on the back it was 280k/h although this may have been due to damage as I was the only one to make it back.
1CGS LukeFF Posted December 22, 2023 1CGS Posted December 22, 2023 Yes, it's a known issue with the AI. Not sure when a solution might be coming. 1
tonric-73686_ Posted December 22, 2023 Author Posted December 22, 2023 Fair enough. It's not a game breaking issue to be fair just makes those long bombings runs a bit longer than they should be.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 I think it's tied to the formations, it really slows them down vs just. A single plane following waypoints 1
IckyATLAS Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 (edited) Maybe the wind blowing may slow or speed the plane ? The ammunition loadout like external bombs etc. can also slow down the plane. Edited December 22, 2023 by IckyATLAS

In my careers we were always flying 360-370km/h after the flight had reached the formation. Quite a challenge, when flying with 2x250kg and 4x50kg at the high temperatures during the first phases of Stalingrad. Only climbing and waiting for aircrafts behind the formation was always at 270km/h. But you are right, waypoint speeds are always lower, than what the map tells. In bombing missions with the Me 262 the difference can be more than 100km/h, and it varies from mission to mission.

A single plane following waypoints It's this. When the flight leader is waiting for one of the wingmen to catch up, the flight slows down. If one does not follow, the leader will stay slow depending on waypoint priority. If waypoint priority is medium or low, the leader will turn around eventually. If the waypoint speed is higher than the max continuous speed, they will stay at max speed once the formation is complete. As Luke mentioned, it has been brought up but it is not an easy fix because if it is changed, when 1 plane falls behind, it will never catch up, and wingmen will frequently be left behind. 12 hours ago, Mtnbiker1998 said: Considering the way ai flies in formation bouncing between 0 and 100% throttle constantly, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. That part is super annoying but doesn't seem to actually affect the speed.
Monty_Thrud Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 In single player misions when you put your players plane under AI control the throttle increases and decreases all the time, maybe this will have something to do with it...? I'm sure they know about it, if they have a new AI programmer now he will have to become accustomed to the software, at a guess.

That's an indicator of AI decision-loop logic that is far too tight. This is one reason AI is so hard on resources. It’s a legacy problem that has not been fixed. 3
