HazMatt Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 I have a 1080ti with a 12100 using a quest 2. My frame rates are dropping down to the 30ies at times. I'm wondering if this is due to my GPU or maybe my CPU. Does anybody have a comparable system that they can let me know what kind of frame rates they get?
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 (edited) S! Your CPU/GPU combo is totally adequate for non-VR gaming, but will struggle with VR as your frame rates show. A better GPU might help a little. A good place to check is SYN Vander /chillwilli69 VR thread, a lot of combos tested and also test procedures explained. Pinned at top of this forum section. Panzerlang Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 (edited) I got around 30fps with a 1080Ti and 8600k CPU. More troughs than peaks. The 3080Ti on the same CPU gave me around 50-ish, more peaks (70-ish) than troughs. Edited December 22, 2023 by Hetzer-JG52
LLv34_Flanker Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 S! Hetzer, you are held back by the CPU now.
HazMatt Posted December 28, 2023 Author Posted December 28, 2023 Thanks for the info. I was looking at a 4070 but wasn't sure if the cpu would be strong enough to give me a good bump on my fps.

HazMatt Posted December 29, 2023 Author Posted December 29, 2023 (edited) So I'm guessing a 4070 would be powerful enough to run using a Quest 2 at max detail with a 12100 for now with a CPU upgrade down the road? Also could I run 4k with this setup? Edited December 29, 2023 by HazMatt
LLv34_Flanker Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 S! @HazMatt Check the VR thread and do the test, gives a good indication
HazMatt Posted January 1, 2024 Author Posted January 1, 2024 Um ya. I don't see a "test" I see a calculator that shows a 3% difference between a 1080ti and a 4060 at 4k resolution with the same CPU. Not sure how accurate that is. I was hoping for real world feedback.
LLv34_Flanker Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 (edited) S! There is a test you can run with IL-2 GB to see how your system fares. You would need a better card than 4060, preferably 4080. Edited January 1, 2024 by LLv34_Flanker
HazMatt Posted January 4, 2024 Author Posted January 4, 2024 Thanks. I didn't see the fraps thing earlier. (sometimes I need the crayons and the Big Chief) I'm confused by: "You would need a better card than 4060, preferably 4080. I was talking about upgrading to a 4070. Or is this something relating to the test?

Or is this something relating to the test? I have a 12600KF/4070 with Pico 4 setup running just fine in IL2. Have to tone down the settings a bit, but it runs smooth at 72Hz. I would imagine you could run with atleast the same settings with a 4070. My settings in the post below.
HazMatt Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 I have another question that maybe some of you great minds can help me with My kid place WoW on the same computer that I use for Il2. I use the Nvidia overlay to watch CPU/GPU ussage in both games. When he is playing WoW the GPU is at 100% and CPU is around 40% with about 300fps showing. When I use the same system with IL2 my GPU usage never goes over about 50%, my CPU usage is usually lower then 40% and my framerate is always showing less then 100. It seems to me that the CPU or GPU should go to 100% in Il2 as well. I've messed around with the settings but it hasn't made any real difference. Thanks in advance.
