It was decided this early IAR-80 pre Axis skin was not suitable as a stock skin by virtue of it being the wrong variant and thus ahistorical.  Obvioulsy it is not nice for me to keep this to myself as I personally think this is the nicest look and markings for the IAR-80.

Skin available here. (Sorry could not get my HSD logon to work).

I will work on getting the public template released ASAP.

Beautiful!

Thank you very much!!!

The textures on the plane and all the skins in game look amazing. You did an awesome job on this. ?

These early markings looked cool even on the 109E.

Working on Felicia and Getta. ....

It's gonna be a while...:( There are a lot of small pieces everywhere, because of all the arming options. The crosses on the wings come exactly on top of the ammo boxes, and every version has different panels.

BTW, is the official template going to be released this year, or next?

The official skins are amazing and I could never get the textures to that level.

I know in Il-2 1946 they had winter camo, but irl it seems they kept their Summer camo during winter. Images in spoiler below.

The latter 2 pictures are from Romanian Fighter Colours 1941-1945 by Teodor Liviu Morosanu and Dan Alexandru Melinte

On another note, the following scheme would make for a nice skin for the short version (if it isn't already included in the game, I don't have it installed at the moment so I can't check)image.thumb.png.c725d9f31eae4c7c621254ace7f6cc04.png

IAR80 early variant in pre Axis markings as shown below.

I.A.R.80 No. 26, March 1941.  This particular aircraft was used for trials to test modifications and improvements suggested by pilots.  I could find only one grainy image of this aircraft which shows the fuselage was unpainted with the fuselage in primer and bare metal areas on the nose.  I did debate having the wings in primer as well but went with the painted wings variant as shown in various profiles.  Some profiles indicate the rear face of the prop blades were bare metal, but this is contrary to the normal practice where the rear face was RLM70 to prevent glare.  So I went with normal RLM 70 pro blades.

There is a blurry colour photograph showing some unpainted I.A.R.80 aicraft with various painted panels.

Edit:  I made a change to the engine cowling to add a bare metal area.  This seems to be backed up by photo evidence that the front cowling panels were bare metal.

I know, but I mean a significant sale. I can't justify spending 20€ on a single plane, even though I really want to.

Thanks Martin.

The template is amazing. Everything you need to make any skin it's there. All the markings, all the numbers, amazing weathering and everything. All perfectly organized and marked. :clapping:

Most of the work is already on the template. All I did was personalize them with individual numbers and markings.

Martin did most of the work. :salute::clapping::drink2:

I noticed so far two bugs with the IAR-80 texture/mapping.

1. The game is using the same landing gear door parts for both wheels and you can't paint the underside of the wings non symmetrical. The part is on the template, but the game sees the gear door from the other wing.

I wasn't able to get the polished metal look. It always looks like painted metal. The alpha doesn't have much effect on the metal look.

We had the same issue with the P-51B skins when it was released. it was later fixed in aa patch.

and two.

Check the difference between these two skins. I used almost identical colors on the alpha and on the skin.

I was trying to make a Hughes H1 Racer skin for IAR-80. I had one for the IAR in the old il-2 and in Warthunder. ?

the gear doors issue:

and the reflection/polish metal issue.

And this one I did for Warthunder.

The IAR has been setup as a painted reflective surface on the 3D model.  It will be impossible to get a polished metal look.

I can report the other error on the UC doors.

Two IAR-81C's.

First is number 344, the plane of Dan Vizanti, Commander of 6th Fighter Squadron, the highest scoring IAR-80/81 ace. He led the 6th Fighter Squadron, on June10th 1944 in the famous ambush of the low flying P-38's.

and some shots:

Next one is the "allied" IAR-81C, with number 448. One of the last IAR fighters built at Brasov. It fought until the end of the war.

Lot's of really great skins being uploaded and it warms the cockles of my heart to see it. :)

Though in all my research I have never seen a two tone early (pre mid 1943) camo I.A.R.80 with the light blue tail underside.  There is a lot of confusion created by virtue of the fact that some of these early airframes were rebuilt, upgraded and repainted at the factory.  So you will see an early serial I.A.R.80 being given a new cannon armament, renamed to from I.A.R.80-A to I.A.R.80-M and given a new lick of paint, but it keeps its original serial (or tail number) throughout its service history.  So if you see a conflicting set of images with two aircraft sporting the same serial (tail number) and different armament, it is almost certainly the same aircraft with upgrades and a new camo scheme.

The typical camo schemes you will find are

  1. Two tone dark earth and dark green over sky blue, with upper camo wrap around the tail.   This was the pre axis RAF style camo and was applied at the factory until mid-1943 up to aircraft serial 300.
  2. Olive Green over Sky Blue with olive green wrap around on the tail underside.  This was an uncommon scheme used from mid-1943 and was occasionally applied to early aircraft brought back for overhaul.  It was not used on new builds (as far as can be ascertained).
  3. Olive Green over Light Blue Grey (or RLM76) and was applied from mid-1943 starting on new build aircraft from serial 301.  This was also the far more common scheme used for early aircraft returned for overhaul from mid-1943.

It is possible to see the two tone dark earth and dark green camo until Romania changed sides in 1944.  After this period the camo outlined in point 3 above would have been used with pro Allied markings.
