agile_aardvark Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 I think IL-2 Sturmovik multiplayer mode would benefit from a communications system similar to the one in Post Scriptum (Squad44). For those that aren’t familiar with S44 they use two push-to-talk key bindings. 1 for talking to the entire friendly outfit and 2 for talking to your specific squad. I know there are apps and other programs out there players can use to communicate. My suggestion is for a built-in communication system players can simply use because it’s already there, without having to download extra apps , learn them and try to get others on it. I get there is a chat function in the game but how practical is that, specially in VR? If something like this existed, I believe those pilots flying alone would be more keen to coordinating their efforts with other lone wolves. 2
SIA_Koss Posted December 24, 2023 Posted December 24, 2023 (edited) Totally agree. Voice comms must be integrated into the game. I know SRS software already exists. But it's difficult to figure out how it works for the first time, and especially if you are a novice. I'm a veteran of IL-2, but I'm in using SRS just for a few weeks. Only because of my friend helped me to set it up. Previous attempts i did wrong. Didn't heard anybody... And voice comms paint IL-2 game brighter colors. You fly on comms that sound like a real radio (not clean like a discord or TS), and listen to a general frequency for other pilots or command info. That's really immersive! But than i noticed that less than one fourth/fifth of pilots on comms. But if this system would be integrated, all the pilots will be on comms. At least for receiving the info (if somebody don't like to participate in communicating). SRS has made IL-2 looks more like Squad the game. But in Squad you just bind the key to talk. Without that mess with third party soft... I heard stupid arguments like "we don't need it, because some persons may spam a lot with noise, music or something". Nobody spams or ruin the gameplay in SRS. Nobody spams in voice comms in the Squad (excluding warm-up stage). At least its not problem to add button for switching the radio off, or reducing the volume. Push-to-talk only, no any voice activation. Voice comms MUST be integrated into the IL-2 game!
