Finally I've got a workarround for the 'in game limitations' by using external software

Hi there (and i hope the devs read this, too)

The limitations of this game are really outdated!

Usage of controllers is limited to a number of 8

Any additional connected controller will result in the following:

- new controller found, question if keybindings should be imported from former controllers

(telling me as a user that everything is ok)

- adding keybinding for the new controller works

(telling me as a user that everything is ok)

After starting the game (according to the amount of controllers)

some of them to not work any more when having exceeded the number of 8 controllers)

So you by example use your (formerly working and assigned) pedals -> NOTHING happens

My rig contains 8 'hardware' controllers

Logitech G940 System (Stick, Pedals, Throttle) -> each identified as a single controller -> 3

Logitech Flight Yoke (Yoke and Triple Throttle) -> one controller -> 4

3 additional Logitech Throttle Quadrants -> one controller each -> 7

Logitech Farming Sim Heavy Equipment Side Console -> 1 controller -> 8

So far so well

Additional I have to use a 'virtual' Controller (feeded from the 'real' controllers by external software)

where I map all the missing in game functions (setting engine x to feathered, setting cooler y for engine x 1 step up/down)

to joystick buttons (macro) instead of keypresses (macro) that could  kill other keypresses

So I have a total of 9 controllers that need to be running (not possible!)

Final stage was installing a firewall for my 'real' controllers

hiding my yoke system and my 3 additional throttles, so hat IL2 cannot see them

Mapping these 4 'real' controllers to 2 additional 'virtual' controllers

and having a total of 7 active controllers (that is what the game thinks I have)

Sorry to say that in a clear way, but the need to use that massive external software

only for this game:

Every other flight sim I own (except the still untested RoF) is accepting the compete set of controllers (and in addition my 3 virtual controllers, too)

And one again sorry for my direct words

but this is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

And I (and I guess it's not only me)

would really like to read some words from the devs that they take care of this

and would really like to read that they fix this ASAP

Deci

Additional:

Also have a look at the limitation for 'buttons per joystick'

Some hardware offers more than the accepted amount of 64 (maybe even less) buttons!

I haven't run into a wall with number of devices however getting all control keys mapped to a HOTAS can be a PITA.  I solved this problem with Joystick Gremlin (link below).  It allows for a assignment of a "shift" key so you can assign another layer of controls to the same keys.  You can just place the DirectX code into it but I assign the buttons using the in-game defaults instead.  There are other similar software out there.  I think one is Joy2key.  Anyway, good luck.

That is what I had to do

including the usage of 'Híd Hide' to get below the really disabled 'number of accepted and usable' devices

But I'ld also say, that 'limitation' was outdated at least in 2020

now we have 2023 (and soon 2024)
