Mission box size recommendation

Hello,

I'm looking to start a campaign where there is as much randomization as possible. For example, maybe a couple of missions there is no contact, maybe the next few missions are more busy etc.

Looks like the mission box size affects this, default is 60. What would be a good number to have here?

You will have to play with it.  Because of the level of randomization in PWCG it is impossible to predict exactly what will happen.  You won't really know that you have what you want until you play several missions, as one mission doesn't say much.  You are also looking for a different feel, and only you know what that is.

Still, if I'm going to throw out a number - start with 90.

That will do for starters I shall give that number a go cheers.

I'm curious to know just how frequent were no contact missions during these Eastern front operations such as BOS, BOS and BOK?

Your question will generate so many answers. First off you need to consider are you a fighter pilot, or a ground attack/bomber pilot. How long do you want your missions to be? What about the A.I Search radius, you could get the same effect with smaller plane numbers in a smaller box, thus increasing game performance....

For a Normandy A-20 Ground attack campaign, I set the Box to 70 and that is generating very nice 40ish min flights give or takes, With a decent amount of contact and action.

Flying Circus on the Western Front....The box is much smaller at 40...

Best Answer is learn the system and have a lot of trial and error.

I know Erich Hartmann had about one combat every two missions.  Probably a little less earlier earlier in the war.  Late war western front, I would think German pilots would have combat more often because they were being vectored to bombers.  Allied escort fighter pilots less often because they were more numerous and they would keep to their assignment.  On tactical fighter missions - don't know.

On the eastern front, 5 missions a day was not that unusual.  In the west it would be one or maybe two.

One thing about PWCG.  You will fly far fewer missions that historical eastern front pilots but have contact far more often.  PWCG, by default, credits you with three missions flown for every actual mission.  In other words, PWCG models the mission that you actually had contact with and not (usually) the no contact missions.
