1C Game Studios plan to make a Career mode for this module and also the Finnish Air Force as a new country, so they have also a lot of work to do there. Because of that, KarttaKompania's previous wish to give the map for free is no longer true. Han will probably open this issue when it is relevant.

⚠️ So .... + voice pack I suppose? 😄

As long as the project doesn't get cancelled, I'm in to pay for it like any other module.

Have a nice day.

Honestly, I hope that 1CGS will turn it into a full-fledged addon as a new theater. There might even be EA with 2 planes at beginning (I-153 + something new and the map) and they would do the rest within the next year. I have nothing against this idea.

If it were for me, they could sell a full fledged 1941 ten plane module and a 1944 ten plane module as an addon. I would buy both. Karelia/Leningrad really has huge potential if done right. Same is true for Odessa or Crimea.

This sounds really good! Congratulations @LLv44_Kanttori and the rest of the map team for your great work.

I also agree that it would be a great idea to have this as an official Battle of Finland with a proper planeset.

Please, I need a Buffalo :)

My fingers are crossed for some sort of plane set 😄 Every addition is very welcome! And to be honest it would be somewhat poetic to have this as some sort of "last" installement for the Great Battles Series when "Forgotten Battles" was the first for the old IL-2. Don't you think ? 😄

This video is the first in an mini-series recounting the events of Soviet main offensive in the Karelian Isthmus, during the summer of 1944.

Starting at 2:18 minutes into the video we see many soldiers walking around in groups. How is this effect created?

I wanted to have this in my missions but do not see how to do it. In the editor you have objects that to generate a soldier walking, but how to create so that they move in groups of five or six I wonder.

One way is to multiply the objects and have them piled on top of one another, so that each copy generates a soldier. The problem is that if the objects are too precisely on top of one another the game crashes. Any clue?

I'm very happy someone noticed that detail, that 15 sec clip took only like one week to create...

Yes, there's a lot of camouflage net-objects stacked up to multiple the soldiers walking around. I noticed that what happens with the stacking, is that on certain camera angle the nets disappear but show them soldiers still walking, so I placed trucks inside the nets and it looks like they're loading the trucks. If you look further, there's also a lot of soldiers walking by the barracks. I just carefully placed same stacked nets inside the barracks and soldiers show up wandering around.

So, you were on to it but sadly this was just "movie magic" not usable in missions 🙁

In the default "Airfield Groups" of EMG by Vander is a walking soldier too.

I suppose it is in the attached group, maybe in the "effect"?

If certain objects like tents or dugouts are made into linked entities, they will spawn walking soldiers. Their uniforms will be based on the country you make the object.

Yes, what is planned is that the community will have the Karelia map for free and it will include also a free campaign by Juri_JS. Future plans are been discussed and decided together with the game developers and more info released when the time is right.

Karttakomppania do welcome all support via https://www.patreon.com/KarttaKomppania and with the support can continue building more and faster content for the map. Karttakomppania also encourages 3d modelers or any talented persons, who think they could contribute to this project to contact and help out!

As we know, the map project has been delayed.

For all who want to see this map finished, I encourage all to join the Karttakomppania Patreon to help fund the project.

$5 per month isn't so bad.  The more people sign up, the better.  It's for a good cause 👍

In my humble opinion, I would pay as always for this map along with planes with it:
I-153
Fokker D.XXI
and so many other incredible aircraft from this theater of operations that can give much more life to the best WWII simulator

Same here, there is next to no information even for those of us helping to support the map through Patreon, we find out what the general public does.;)

Map building is a long and tedious process and their plans changed from giving out the map to it being adopted by 1C but we have no further information pased on to us in regard to what happens next, maybe there is now a NDC in place so information is down to 1C, who knows, it would be nice to be informed instead of being in the dark.:drinks:

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Yes, it has been running for some time now:

https://www.patreon.com/KarttaKomppania/posts

There has been no news for a while on what is happening, originally they were going to give the map for free but since then there has been hints that 1C would take it on, however, as of right now nothing confirmed either way as such but the map build continues until things are decided. So, as a group of enthusiasts any help provided  from the communitywill be most welcome to help those working in their spare time to bring the map to a conclusion irrespective of how/when/where it is released.;)

Take care and be safe.

Wishing you all the very best, Pete.

Map looks great and we don't have trees by all roads put by script like default in other maps. Doing whole map by hands looks much better than just fill out blanks with something that match.

Thank you coldViPer! :)

I am also a former resident of Lappeenranta, and there are a few more familiar landmark buildings to come. The Saimaa canal and its locks are also being completed during the fall. Our Patreon page has also been updated. Now in the next autumn and winter we have something to show, so we will also share screenshots more closely than last spring. Remember to also participate in our crowdfunding if you are not already involved! ;)

PATREON - KARTTAKOMPPANIA

Here are some photos, plans and our 3D-model pictures of the first Saimaa channel lock named Mälkiä. After the Continuation War, the canal was expanded, so even this type of lock from the 1930s is already history.Piirustus_Malkian_sulku.thumb.jpg.4b911340ddb39fcd859fceff52fd039d.jpg

I have updated also KarttaKomppania's own Karelia map sub page in our Lentorykmentti 3 home pages, you find it HERE!
But if you click that picture above you go to our Patreon crowdfunding page, I have updated it too! Now that the social media and website updates for August have been taken care of, I can continue the map work together with our old gentlemen... :russian_ru:

Now I must write to you that I don't always have time to read let alone write anything on these social media channels because I'm so damn busy with this project. I have to learn all the new things myself first (like how to make cities now) and then I try to advise my three other senior friends. Thank God Zeus guides me when he has time! :salute:

Our three volunteers - all over 70 years old - are left from the group that started shortly six years ago to first do Photoshop work in editing the ground cover. Then they moved to learn Mission Editor - easy jobs at first, of course. The Mission Editor is especially difficult to get used to at first, but as a map editor it is an absolutely great tool! Likewise all other IL-2 Sturmovik Tools such as Height Processor, Water Compressor and Plant Generator.

You can believe that my brain felt like it was exploding at times with how much I had to remember from the whole map making process - or maybe I have an incipient memory disorder that I just haven't noticed.

So, dear friends, please forgive me if I don't sometimes remember to write news every now and then, because it's all away from the main thing itself, i.e. the return of Karelia. But from now on I promise to share the news and post screenshots at least once a month and also when the map work is progressing rapidly. Now it looks like it's starting to roll nicely because our 3D modellers have accomplished a lot even in the summer! :good:

Wow, all in your seventies, I think the oldest I know still mapping in the old modded 1946 is 86 or there abouts! We are all old, I am nearly 61 and trying to get my head around the Blender 3d program, it seems like you need to be a University graduate sometimes but with perseverence it comes in time, slowly but surely.:dash::wacko::crazy:

Sad to say I have stayed clear of the Great Battles mission editor, that madness gripped me in the old 1946 sim, I have heard how difficult it can be for those starting out, I tip my hat to you guys for going there and getting the map this far.:drinks:

Take care and be safe.

Some video

That is a real amateur's practising video where I tried the game's Film Viewer tools and different angles and camera positions: cockpit, exterior, rear view and fly-by. The camera keeps shaking and zooming restlessly and too fast because I haven't used the Film Viewer tools properly for years.

It was made worse by the fact that I forgot to lower the landing gear at the end and the flight ended with a belly landing at Lappeenranta airfield. Fortunately, I realized to stop the video recording with OBS Studio before that. Because of the six years map work, my flying skills are also completely rusty... :joy:

The video can be here for a while now, but even better flight videos are coming soon - as soon as I pass the basic flight school course!
